Coach Assistant coach changes for 2020

Says a lot about the Collingwood footy club the way Buckley and players have supported Longmuir in his ambition to senior coach, but also backing him in the finals campaign.

Agree we should go hard for the likes of Mitchell and Collins. Both have great pedigree. However I have one question for you - as assistants to Buckley or one of them as replacement senior coach?

Dean Soloman seems pretty well respected- came second to Longmuir for the Freo job. We should have a chat to him to see what’s he could offer.

Our players would run through opposition players to get the ball with Solomon as a coach.

It seems we have made the correct choice in selecting Longmuir & I am looking forward to him bringing a bit of Collingwood professionalism to Fremantle.

In regards to your defensive structures & coaching, could Nick Maxwell be moved into that coaching position?

Firstly, you have landed your first Fremantle Premiership coach. He’s a beauty.
While he may bring some Collingwood professionalism with him, he will bring a heap of his own making.

Based on what exactly? His applying for senior gigs? Oh wait he hasn’t. Or maybe him going on the record as saying he’s not ready and ruling himself out.

Perhaps in the future but right now he’s learning his craft as an assistant coach - his words not mine.
He has a great footy brain and we should be going after the best assistant coaches by offering big $$$. Stuff the soft cap.

So who else is out there? Longmuir can’t be the last brilliant assistant coach ever. Let’s spend some $$$ and attract some talent. It’s an opportunity to grow, not put our head in our hands.

ah ok it was boyd as backline coach
dont mind that but im not sure why we constantly get players to coach in positions they never played
longmuir was a forward/ruck - defensive coach (admittedly he did brilliantly)
boyd was a midfielder - defensive coach (he occasionally ran off half back i suppose)
anthony rocca was a full forward - ruck coach

ill back these blokes in. but any chance of doing something that makes sense?

Doesn't this leave us one short from the senior coaching panel that we maintained this season?

Hocking becomes VFL coach and replaces Rivers.

Boyd moves from development to replace Longmuir as defensive coach.

Selwood replaces Boyd in development.

Who has replaced Hocking?

Boyd was a fine player and I'm sure a quality bloke but doesn't come with the same coaching experience that we flourished with under Longmuir.

If we haven't bothered replacing Hocking in the senior coaching panel are we taking some short cuts and falling back into bad habits that could sometimes present in the past with coaching appointments?

A good enough kind of mindset isn't what we should strive for.
