I know we have Eddie but...

I'd rather coax him out of retirement and get him into that small lockdown defender we're crying out for!

I'm certainly think he'd make a good addition to a coaching line up, but surely we'd be weary of his experience and how he fits into our coaching mix. Would want to have others signed on and be comfortable we've got good experience across the board first.

Can’t find the link now, but I thought I read that Betts was (or was considering) moving in to an AFL community development role.

I think he might have also completed a teaching degree, so another career path is in wait there.

Someone with his experience, reputation and community standing wouldn’t be short on options; I’d be surprised if he ended up in ‘just’ a player development role at Carlton.

Do we have Eddie tho? I haven’t heard or seen anything that his staying on at the club which I was really hoping

Those plans for him to have an off-field role were under the old administration, I doubt that the new administration at the club is of the same view when it comes to having Eddie continue with us which I think is understandable considering his ties to those who are no longer there. Eddie would be best suited in a role to do with the AFL where he'd have a far wider reach than being stuck in club land.

Would the general consensus be that we are looking to unveil our whole assistant coaching panel together rather than on an ad hoc basis? Might be one that we are trying to shake loose from elsewhere delaying things a bit?

For a "rudderless" club we haven't done too badly of late, acknowledged best administrator in the comp, an experienced driven coach who is a good media performer, signature of the best available player (who fits our needs) in the trade period. Would be nice to finish up with an experienced, diverse coaching panel.

A coach needs to have a different skill set to Captain. A Captain can lead and influence with actions. A coach needs to iNfluence entirely with words. Whether he is a good communicator, good at influencing with words etc… is perhaps untested. Agree he could be good, but I reckon Voss needs some “sure things” to support him.

I think there's a pretty good chance that's how it goes down.

Sayers showed early that he's not going to have us dancing to the media's beat. They like their news dripfed to keep the news cycle moving, an update here, another there.

Announcing our coaching panel in one go denies them that, reinforces that just because people aren't hearing about every little move we make that doesn't mean we're not moving, and presents the club as united and organised.

Question is....could we pull it off. Not only do we need to stop the leaks from our end, but we also need to ensure the new assistants (or their families...) don't let it slip, nor the clubs they're currently employed with, who they would need to inform of their intent to leave.

I don't really see the point of bothering to orchestrate that. I really doubt that's what we are doing.

So far with player re-signings, Cook etc it all came out one at a time.

I am sensing what you are sensing. For the first time that I can remember, there is a really change in the air. It feels like it's controlled change, unlike every other false dawns, plus in Melbourne, there is a real template.

Aaron Hamill our backline coach according to Twomey
Thanks for posting this. Not sure what to think. Liked Hamill's toughness as a player but I am not jumping up and down at the moment. If true, I am hoping for someone else who is known for tactical nous... Shall wait and see what unfolds...

Sammy returns the week after Elliot passes.

Coincidence? I wonder if those two ever spoke again? We’ve been crap ever since.
