Excluding us, his 17 years in the game has seen similarly limited success.

One person is not going to be the root of success or failure, however I would suspect he would have been poached by now of his impact were that significant, and if it's simply on par with other assistant coaches or prospects, I'd personally favour someone from a successful environment than one who has spent over two decades in unsuccessful environments.

Putting that aside though, I just personally favour rotating assistants once they've imparted all they could possibly teach. You would think that would be the case after a decade, so I'd look to bring in someone that has another perspective to offer, and that may click with players that he may have been unable to.
He’s been here 9 years if he had any drive to better himself he would have moved to other clubs to get more experience and another look. Sounds like a journeyman assistant who’s just happy getting by

not every type of person has to be that driven they have to reach the top or die trying - there is something to be said for knowing your limitations and focussing on your strengths - I too am curious as to his long time at the club but am also aware that when supporters are seeking a fallguy they will often look for the person with little or no tangible results and no medals around his neck.........

I agree that is why we have the public service.....Barker can work there.

How did we rate for stoppages? (Which is what his role is).

The whole anti barker thing appears to be built on the "vibe". Not sure what his % winning as a player has to do with his ability as an assistant coach.

By all means give us factual information as to why he is poor at his job.

Surely being bottom 2 from points conceded from stoppages is a good thing for a stoppage coach?

You are merely stating that the likes of teague and Lloyd as football manager are incompetent for continue to employ someone who in your eyes has proven that they don't have the capacity to do the job.

Fairly sure it's built on a singular track record of mediocrity at multiple clubs over a 10+ year sample space

Your perspective is contradictory. Bolton didn't succeed when divorced from the influence of Clarkson's winning aura. Fagan at 60 is experienced and has the following people around him that know how to win: starcevich, simon black, clark keating with leigh matthews on the board Our club has no premiership winning experience, apart from Luke Power, at any level of the club. Appointing another coach with no afl playing experience let alone finals winning experience, will not create the right mix Teague requires to become successful.

Lions hey, you best get your facts right

Starcevich, Black, Keating are part of their AFLW set up

These are the AFL coaches, tell me who has flag experience?

Do you think all the line coaches in the VFL are ex AFL players with premiership experience? He is an academy coach and a line coach for the VFL.

No need to move, Carlton keep changing coaches so John can learn from them, without going anywhere, he’s learning off his fourth coach now.

What I think is, his appointment does not fulfill our need for some experienced coaches that have seen premiership success

Jezz he is a development coach and another set of eyes in the back room looking out for and nurturing elite young talent to transition to the top grades . The appointment only has upside for Carlton.

Bottom two on both counts means we are scoring less per stoppage and opponents are scoring more.

You are not going to get an elite coach for the role he is filling. Anyone with that pedigree is either entrenched where they are or being paid to fill a more significant role. He seems a perfect appointment for the role.

Barker has been the coaching whipping boy. Something to lay the blame on for our pain.
No way he is useless and still kept the job this long. It just doesnt happen in elite sport.
Secondly our club has shown no issue in moving people on who do not meet or fulfill Their roles, including favourite's.
This has occurred under current and past management during his tenure. despite this he survives. They Must know something we all do not.

And if they don't then they are either complicit, or incompetent...and given the nature and history of our club there would have been a very public execution by now if they are.

Yes but I hope Tarin is not the only change and that we are not allocating too much soft cap to his role.
