have you heard of the concept of "club culture"? thoughts?

Yeh I have and that’s obviously why I’d be reluctant to consider him in any capacity. Let’s say Sydney though, they have a pretty strong culture that has been solid for a number of years now, would you back their culture to have someone like Hird in their ranks as they may feel that their culture will overcome his past, assuming they feel as though he can offer up something tactically/developmentally.

Our club is nowhere near that level yet.

Why are people so determined to find a place for Hird?
Under his leadership (and 1 of the most expensive groups of assistant coaches) the Bombers achieved nothing.
You hear people speak of his tactical nous but on exposed form it is debatable whether he was up to standard even putting aside the obvious..

Pose that question on the Sydney Board not here!

Firstly the Swans would laugh at the suggestion, secondly, Hird's ego wouldn't cope with being a bit player/underling

No doubt he is hoping for Woosha to be sacked

I suspect the Hird kool-aiders are hoping for an Essendope loss against the Demons to increase the pressure on Woosha. They've already been testing the water for him.

I know 99% of you will probably flat out reject this, but Hird mentioned on the weekend that he wouldn't rule out a return to coaching.

Do you think we should sign him up as an assistant coach?
Would he seriously go out of his way and head this way....and do you think the club bias would allow for his recent involvements >?

BRENDON BOLTON, SENIOR COACH
JOHN BARKER, ASSISTANT COACH (STOPPAGES)
CAMERON BRUCE, ASSISTANT COACH (MIDFIELD)
DAVID TEAGUE, ASSISTANT COACH (FORWARDS)
DALE AMOS, ASSISTANT COACH (DEFENCE)
SHANE WATSON, DEVELOPMENT COACH (DEFENDERS)
JOSH FRASER, NORTHERN BLUES VFL COACH
BRENT STANTON, DEVELOPMENT COACH (MIDFIELD)
JASON DAVENPORT, DEVELOPMENT COACH (FORWARDS)
SAV ROCCA, SPECIALIST COACH (GOALKICKING)
HAMISH MCINTOSH, SPECIALIST COACH (RUCK)

All these full time coaches yet we are not progressing at all. Its a pretty uninspiring list if you ask me.

We need a complete clear out come the end of the year. The only one who has actually proven decent is Dale Amos. The rest including Teague and Bruce has so far been dissapointing. Also we have 4 development coaches yet there is no development happening, we are going backwards.

Always thought they shouldn’t have kept Barker on after his caretaker coach role.
I don't think they had any choice. It was part of the deal for him to be the caretaker coach after Malthouse. Admittedly they could have moved him on in the years since then though.

The thing that strikes me as a bit off about the coaching setup is that from the outside it really does seem like a school environment. I think it should be more like a military academy where the players are trained for battle.

Compare Clarkson going to Kokoda and teaching his youngsters to be men with Bolton taking his youngsters on camp and teaching them to have good manners.

These are grown men and the coaching staff should be demanding things of them. There should be a three strikes policy where there are consequences for making the same mistakes over and over again, e.g. crack of dawn training sessions, freezing swims, whatever. It's not enough to just keep showing footage and asking politely for the players to learn from their mistakes.

Self sacrifice builds character, not losing week after week.

Very happy with that, good to see our off-field side of things becoming a lot more healthier than in previous times.

I'm concerned Luke might struggle now that he has so much more elite junior talent to manage compared to when he was running the AFL Academy ;)

But seriously, good luck Luke. Seems a good fit.

Luke Power. What a coup ! Fabulous news.

He was a brilliant player with a high footy IQ and just a very well prepared professional. I am thrilled at this !

Couldn't agree more. Held in high esteem by many in the industry. Will be invaluable in the development of our kids - i can see a player like Setterfield really benefiting from a guy like Power. Great move by the club.
Now, to get Nick Riewoldt in a development role also for our young forward line...
