Recently retired players in Wayne Campbell, Brenton Sanderson, Leigh Colbert, Roger James and Jason Ball - are they worth a look at as possible assistant coaches at the Blues for next season? They wouldn't cost too much but seem to be guys that have a very good understanding of the game and are very respected players.

If nothing else, they would bring a fresh outlook on how the game is played and should be played these days. Fresh ideas and training methods/habits would help our young guys.

Ball - would make for a great ruck coach
Colbert - coach the defenders
James - midfielders
Campbell - forwards/midfielders

Our midfield coach - I'm assuming that is Libba has to move on. It seems we know how to run one way, forward and that's all.

Our tackling coach has to move on.

Our skills coach has to move on.

And if one of those isn't Tony Elshaugh, he has to move on. Pagan has been reluctant to dispose of assistant coaches - and I can't see this trend altering. However I feel it needs to be changed, quickly.

i'd prefer to have someone who has been out of AFL for a few years and who has gone and coached a side of their own- Rhen

its gives them a broarder perspective on things. aslo with their own coaching experience we won't have to be coaching them about coaching while they are trying to coach tha players.

Peter German: Coached Claremont (I think) this year and got them to the grand final. I saw him do some phenomanal work at the Burnie Dockers in the old TFL. Very passionate speaker and really understands how a midfield operates.

Peter Dean: Good old Carlton boy who's taken training once already this year and works well with younger players.

Elshaug and Libba need to go.

Dean is already there mate working with Mitchell and the reserves.

i wouldn't mind colbert as a defence coach
but i would really love ratten coaching our midfielders like he did at melbourne for a year.

Ball or Campbell would be handy to help the midfield and ruck division. Rehn sounds ok. Dean might need a promotion to help out the Carlton seniors on a more permanent basis. What about getting Stynes to help out with the O'hAilpin boys, Bryan, Deluca and Batson?

Setanta and Stynes hate each other.

How? Why? Rumour or fact?

Fact.

Jimmy got his brother to write an article how the O'hAilpins should split up and 1 should leave Carlton to continue there careers just to add a bit of spice to things as well.

Goes back a few years this stuff.

That sounds like a dumb article.

It was. Just written out of spite to rock the boat. Thank god Setanta is signed up now and has time to develop. I think his brother being around ensures that he wont get so homesick and makes the chances of both of them becoming good AFL players a hell of a lot more likely.

Absolutely.

I heard Aisake went alright at Full Back in the reserves, and there are worse things than a quick 199cm Agile Full Back. If he takes 5 years it'll be worth having the kid on the list.

You get 3 years as an international rookie, is that correct?

Yes. Aisake is thought of as a future ruckman and has some skills with that.

Setanta looks like a forward at this stage. Apparently has caried an injury for the last 2 months and his form dropped away in the VFL because of it after looking good earlier in the season.

WE desperately need a specialist ruck and defence coach. I know Madden does occasional visits but they just ain't enough for the development of Bryan and Deluca.

Do we have a defence coach now???
