well they should have a contract clause stating they can't sign until the end of the finals.
Regardless Neeld can't be too critical come game day, seeing as Mick seemed happy for him to go. Takes our entire game plan with him though, that sucks.

All assistant coaches have clauses that say the contract can be broken if they are offered a senior role. Your proposal would see many assistant's miss out on jobs if their club is partaking in finals.

I still can't understand how this can be a roast thread?

At Collingwood don't we toast success?

I think it's great to see our personnel so highly regarded in the industry.

Bit of a pain that they all happen to go when we play finals, but that's normal.

St.Kilda's lost nearly all of their assistants post-2009, Geelong just lost Sanderson, McCartney last year. It happens to all successful teams.

Also, these jobs mean it might be easier to give Mick a worthy job description.

I still think he should have a mentoring role for Bucks, if Bucks isn't too stubborn to have him around.

Mick has such a great relationship with the players, this is one coach I'd hate to lose.

Hopefully has the effect of refreshing players too.

Re: Burns, is he out of contract with WC at the end of the year? If not, do we have to provide compensation to them if we don't lure him with a higher role? I.e a sideways move?

The news with Burns is that he doesn't want to leave WCE, although I'm not sure that was more as in he didn't want to be a senior coach next year, or if it meant he really doesn't want to leave WCE. I don't know how likely it would be to lure him to the Pies.

:thumbsu:

Me either, we are a breeding ground for success so therefore any decent assistant with ambitions of a senior gig would be looking at Collingwood or Geelong.

Somehow we gotta get Burns back if we can and whilst MM is not an assistant at least we know he won't be coaching next year anywhere else (unless another Ross Lyon situation before years end) so it is either a year off or Director of Coaching and if it is the latter then we will be the best assistant of all......if Bucks lets him.

Burns signed a 2 year contract with the Eagles.

Wow, I had no idea so many Pies fans on here were the caring and sharing types. I expected beer swilling bogan types with no teeth LMAO !!!!

Seriously, I guess I was just pissed that we are losing such valuable assets 2 games out from NIRVANA !!!!

Burns coming to Collingwood would be detrimental to his senior coaching aspirations, so he is better off sticking with WCE and building on an already very good reputation.

How so? In recent times it almost seems that being an assistant at Collingwood is a next step to a HC position. Whereas staying at WC, Worsfold won't be going anywhere anytime soon, and assistants like Sumich haven't been considered for HC positions. Unless you're referring to getting a reputation for not staying in one place.

Anyway, it seems as though Monty is staying at WC, so it's moot I guess,

I dont mind our assistants being poached.

I DO however, have a problem with them being poached at the WORST possible time of year.
totally agree, first brad scott now mark neeld, should be written into contract that when u hav signed for the collingwood football club that that should be your only priority, i dont care what mick says, anything different re coaching will hav some affect no matter how minor.
if that paticular coach cant commit to that well dont sign them up, im sure the collingwood football club would assist in anyway possible for coaches to improve themselves but not at the expense of a chance to win a premiership.
if another club wants them that bad im sure they can wait until the day after our final game of the season if they want them that bad, as far as im concerned its just a way for other clubs to adopt our ideas.
i say f... them :D

It annoys me that Neeld and Scott were dismissed in the middle of finals.
Somebody explain why they can't finish their job here for the last weeks of the finals, since this Somebody can't see any reason. It's just another worry that it might disrupt the team's performance. It's a pretty huge change to suddenly lose your midfield coach in finals.

Hopefully Bucks will have the more sensible policy on this.

PS there's no reason why someone like Neeld coudn't sign the Melbourne deal effective after the GF, so that the new contract does not clash. Yes they can have a clause that allows them to break contract if offered a HC position, as long as it stipulates that the contract is only broken at the end of the current season.

We can only have one senior coach. No point trying to hold on to all of them.

The reason why it happens during the finals is because the clubs who are appointing the new coach have been out of the game for 2 weeks+ and they're trying to get a senior coach as quickly as possible so they can go through their lists and delist/trade who the the new coach wants.

If it was Collingwood recruiting a new coach and we didn't make the finals I doubt anyone would be saying we should wait another 2-3 weeks before we appointed a new coach so they could keep on being an assistant.

The one thing that I take from having so many assistants leave for better opportunities is the intellectual property that is lost. All those guys with intimate knowledge of our systems who are employed to pick it apart. It puts a real focus on a constantly evolving.. well club... improving everything but I guess particularly tactics. I'm really interested next year what changes and innovations Bucks brings in.
