You don't think we are tough ? Well we were the no 1 contested ball and pressure team in the midfield and were favourites heading into a GF

Whether that's due in any part to Clarke or Campo who knows - but to say our midfield with cornerstones Crouches and Sloane aren't tough well you are making stuff up

You think Sloane Crouches and Greenwood are soft ? That's what you're saying
Inside ball, contested ball and inside midfielders are only one part of the picture.

What has Campo done to improve our outside ball winners? They still don't go in when it's their turn, plus players avoid tackling and leave it to our inside players for some bizarre reason. Defensively, we also seem lost when we don't get that perfect tap from Jacobs to inside mids, which makes it very easy for the opposition midfield to stroll out of stoppages. We saw that against Richmond and Geelong in the finals.

You've basically pointed to four players and stated our entire midfield is hard at the football. Are players like Atkins and Mackay really delivering that swarm pressure? Manic want for the football? Or do they sit on the outside waiting for cheap ball regardless of the circumstances?

Are players like Sloane, the Crouches and Greenwood inherently tough, or were they coached to be that way by Campo? Are you giving Campo credit for those players being hard?

Then again, if you think it's Campo's job to just tell Matt Crouch and Sloane how to win clearances and rack up touches on the inside, I guess you probably think he is doing a good job

If you coach the players to be soft, you get a soft result.

The entire time Campo and Clarke have been in charge of the midfield, we've seen our midfielders play hard, tough football how many times? I could count the instances on one hand.
Much more this year, probably 5 times. Not much before that

The boys did turn up. They were up with minutes to go in the second quarter. We just got ground down due to lack of running power. This bullshit about not turning up needs to stop. We were hamstrung at the selection table.

Plus, Jacobs dominated the ruck, but we basically got no advantage as a result.

Our midfield setups were shocking.

I hate the whole boys club thing and I really dont like ex players being so doninant in our coaching ranks, but if Pods is leaving, get Truck to name his price.
Controversial, but I'd take Mark Williams on the coaching group

I understand the concept of team diversity however Choco would be a disaster As he has deep seeded hate for the club and would be a terrorist on the bus (in a culture context)
I didn't say he WOULD join but I think he offers a lot wrt winning at all costs, tactics and mongrel...but yep, completely different from all the rest of the coaches

You implied our midfield is soft when it's clearly not

Is Hart going to be a full on assistant? Yuck the guy is boring as batshit and struggles to express an opinion to Kane on the radio. Cant see him holding the attention of professional athletes.

Francou is a good get.
Interesting that having already been an Assistant Coach with the Crows, the club obviously knew exactly what his strengths and weaknesses are ......if he were poor or boring as you say, there's no-way the club would have appointed him ! .....the club has tried before they bought

Add a Roo type player to this midfield & impressions are changed instantly of the whole group .....judgement IMO by physical size

Sorry, but if we're SO BAD ......how did we manage to make the Grand Final ?

I understand that you didn't say "would" however IMO regardless of his footy IQ he would still be a disaster for our club

We lack midfield class more than we are soft in midfield

Maybe. I think it's a combination of players panicking under pressure (part of softness), stoppage structures that are defensively flawed, and outside players struggling to win ground balls or put in defensive work when it's their turn in pressurized situations (also softness).

Milera, for example, is a classy player but not really what we needed in the grand final

He's a second year player , you're talking jibberish

If he's still like he is in 12 months time we have an emerging problem with him but not now . He's a 2nd yr player with things to work on

Criticizing Campo's coaching ability and pointing out flaws with our team does not mean I think the team is bad. Do I need to say positive things when criticizing?
No, but supporters in reality have no way of judging assistant coaches .......it all depends on the cattle at your disposal, maybe if you criticize anyone it should be the recruiters ? .....but their track record, given no top 10 picks is impressive

All I'm saying is that we had a classy player available (Milera) but including him would have made no (or very little) difference to how we performed. We needed a collective group that was better able to handle the pressure; class alone is not the solution.

I'm not criticizing Milera, which you seemed to think I was doing.

Isn't it the job of an assistant coach to help improve the deficiencies in a player's game? Isn't it their job to implement effective structures that work with the overall game plan? Aren't they partially responsible for team selection?

If none of these things are occurring, then it is possible to judge the assistant coaches

:thumbsu: FFS Milera has only just turned 20, and we've judged his career development already

Expectations by supporters are unrealistic & getting worse, due to draftees being hyped up for the television draft
