Dalglish, Hansen, Barnes, Rush, Gerrard just off the top of my head.

Could make arguments for a few others too.
So pretty much anyone thats ever played for Liverpool right?

Thought so.

Keegan and Dalglish could make an arguement.

Everyone else no.

Keegan won 2 Ballon d'Ors but I still rate Dalglish, Barnes and probably Gerrard as better footballers. From the games I've seen of Keegan he was a very effective footballer but in terms of pure talent, Dalglish, Barnes & Gerrard were on another planet.

I don't think it's possible to compare Gerrard & Henry, 2 completely different players and while there were things SG could do that TH couldn't, there were just as many things TH could do that SG couldn't. The only similarity is that both had a massive impact on English & European football and were considered by their peers to be among the best in their position for many, many years.

Barnes & Henry is a pretty good comparison actually, very similar players both in terms of style & ability. Whenever I've asked my uncle (United supporter for what it's worth!) about Barnes he always said he was the Thierry Henry of his day. Both were just untouchable with the ball at their feet and were the key creative forces in probably the 2 most attractive sides English football has ever seen. Unfortunately Barnes had that horrible injury where he completely ruptured his Achilles' tendon in the early 90s and he was never able to recover to anywhere near his best. It's a shame that some people will only remember Barnes as the slow (but still very skillful) deep lying playmaker he evolved into because at his peak during the 80's he was one of the best attackers in the world.

Funnily enough Thierry Henry is in my all time 'Favourite XI' in the other thread so you know how highly I think of him, one of those players who just makes the game look beautiful. If he had played for Liverpool I'd find it hard to split he, Dalglish, Barnes & Gerrard in our top 4 of all time. As for Rush, he scored a hell of a lot of goals but so did Henry. What separates them is Henry's all round game in terms of leadership, playing from wide areas and bringing his team mates into play. In that respect he was on another level to Rush.

A few older family members think Barnes was the best LFC player of all time i'd have him equal to Henry tbh.
Daglish and Gerrard are different types of players to Henry can't compare.
As much as i luv Henry, Bergkamp was still the one player from AFC that just took my breath away

Fair reply.

I rate Keegan in the top 5 of British footballers ever (Best, Matthews, Charlton, Moore, Keegan)

Keegan would be stiff not to be amongst the best European footballers of all time, his 1977,78,79 in a German league with players like Beckenbauer, Muller, Rummenigge, Netzer, Simonsen was crazy finishing 3rd -1st -1st in the European player of the year award.

Barnes unfortunally was never considered in the top 4-5 players in the World at any time in his career though.

Dalglish, Keegan, Gerrard, Barnes and Rush all easily in the frame. Hansen too, but obviously a completely different player.

Rush has scored far more goals than Henry. To the tune of almost another 150 for Liverpool v Henry's 220 odd. How can he be ignored.

If Henry is one of the best forwards ever yet Rush outstrips him by a solid 150 odd goals then I dont know what more he could do.

Remember all these players were winning leagues and European cups. Untouchable in their day.

Rush played an extra what, 8 years?, more at Liverpool than Henry played at Arsenal

Total goals/games
228 (376) Henry
346 (660) Rush

League goals
229 (469) Rush
176 (258) Henry

Rush's goals tally is also bloated with 48 league cup goals in 78 games, Henry played a whooping 3 league cup games for 2 goals.

I've already said Keegan and Dalglish could nake an arguement.

Anyway enough of this otherwise the thread will go to shit again.

Remember the 2007 league cup final. The team we played was really young. He honestly doesnt give a **** about the league cup.

Neither do Koscielny or Szczesny evidently.

The League Cup back then was an important trophy. Now it seems an afterthought. Surprised that Henry only ever played 3 games in the competition.

Either way, Henry, Dalglish, Rush, Barnes, Keegan, Hansen, Gerrard all in the same conversation.

Getting back to that list though. Kanu at 13? Really?
