i would hate to see him in the ruck at this stage, high risk of being hurt hopeing to just see him move around the forward line to show us what he has got.
maybe after he has been around a couple of years and filled out and been shown how to protect himself we can throw him in there.
played ruck in his only game against port. anyway unlikely this week i believe vickery has been selected as well. just on the two griffiths has a better frame and body to play ruck atm than vickery.

Both can get away from the defender so im not to worried about either of there speed right now.
wasnt thinking about getting away from a defender but actually chasing and keeping up. griffiths riewoldt astbury has to leave you open to a counter.

mooney podsiadley and hawkins arent exactly the most agile forwards in the comp. neither are reiwoldt and kosi. collingwood's big forwards arent all that fast either, plus their smaller blokes like medhurst and davis are their softer ones.

agree his body is better suited atm but i still think he needs to be tought how to play there with out being hurt
we really shouldent be seeing vickery at afl level in the ruck yet either but we really dont have a lot of choice.

If they have big tanks then it will not affect them to much. I would rather someone with a big tank then someone that can sprint like matty white then is stuffed by half time.

Maybe this is why we need to get Darling who I think is quick and may have a tank. I read somewhere secondhand he may be that good below the knees which would be disappointing if true given his height

Post may have a tank and Astbury may be able to play down back with JR deep in the forward line so I don't think having a few of these guys in the team will be a problem down the track particularly if Griff can play in the Ruck

astbury looks good. Attacks the ball and his contested marking will get better once he gets stronger. Moves well and i think has shown more than post.

Why wasnt he played in the forward line today? Just to take a bit of presure of jack. He has looked alot better up forward then down back for me. he does the odd good thing down there. But right now looks better in the forward line.

think he will be fine. Seems very sure of himself, a good kick on goal - needs to get involved a bit more but that is the case for most players his age

...how long is a piece of string...only time will tell...watched him today at the 'g' against the eagles...in the backline he wasnt sure when to leave his man and help out in corraling an eagles forward...result a goal...a little tentative as a defender...got the impression watching him that afl level football is all new to him...not lost but still not as sure as martin or nason...looks as if he needs bulk to be more confident in his attack of the ball...strikes me as a clean ball handler not a mongrel defender...but happy to have him...:thumbsu:...
