This bloke appears to me to have bulked up a bit in good time !!
I was impressed with his presence in a couple of contests last night, looks to have good skills. Thoughts ?

Kid looks to be a natural.

I am always impressed that he leads to the right places, alot of the time it goes unrewarded.

All he needs to do is bulk up and build a tank because his got everything else.

Yep, appears to be learning the game and definitely getting the body to be the key forward we want him to be in time.

And Coming Soon: The Griff. :thumbsu:

Looks like he could be a player, but if Griffiths takes FF, where does that leave him? We might be better off turning him into a rebounding key defender in the Nathan Bock mold, except with the flexibility to play key forward.

Don't think you'll find many forward lines structured like that anymore. Taylor and Morton are good marking options also so 2 key forwards would be ideal. Far too top heavy otherwise.

have no problem with all three in the forward line, Griff is a natural FF, Astbury will fill in at CHF and Jack being the 3rd ftall would most likely have a license to move between half forward and the wing to give us a big marking presence in that area to bring the ball in.

I wouldn't mind a forward line of

Nason Astbury Taylor
Morton Griffith Reiwoldt

Sounds like an excellent option, wouldn't mind seeing that myself, at least with Nahas and Scooby there are a couple of extra small forwards waiting for their chance if the others dont perform:thumbsu:

I think Jack would CHF and Astbury untill he adds some weight would be the one leading up the ground looking for a long kick and then gets it deep into the forward line.

Personally dont care which way it turns out, point being all three could play in the forward line...

Hardwick has stated a number of times he thinks Jack is a third tall. Bloody good one though.
He is playing well on the best defender and sometimes being double teamed. If he gets the chance to play on the oppositions third defender with no one constantly double teaming him he could easily kick 50+ goals year after year.

I'm starting to think he could actually be the 1st or 2nd tall providing there are others around him.
If he remains as damaging as he already is when there are two more large options in the forward line might be that no matter what we see him as, he retains the best defender. If Griff and Astbury follow in his mould this season, running and tackling, our forward 50 will be a lock in death zone for oppositions in years to come.

that depends on how top heavy the talls are surely? grif is very athletic, same taylor and astbury, the reason you dont want to be top heavy is so you can apply def pressure. those guys are athletic enuf to apply pressure so the advantage is ours to be big. right??

Astbury has really impressed me so far. I've seen him play school footy and never thought he was good enough for the AFL. Hit the contests really hard in the last qtr and leads well. Good luck to him and hope he has a good career at the tiges!

Astbury seems to do everything right but is rarely rewarded for his efforts. Hopefully one game it will click, and our mids will start hitting him on the chest.

Would like griff and roo to have the forwardline all to themselves with a crumber who ever that may be and have astbury lead up the ground more as someone mentioned before ala N.Riewoldt.

Reverse psychology by DH. Riewoldt has a massive ego, tell him he's a third tall and he'll play like a 1st tall to prove a point. Hard to think a cousin of similar size to nick could only be expected to be a third tall. 8th pick in the draft that should've gone higher except other teams were unsure, you would think he'd be expected to be a star.

As for Astbury he looks like he could develop very nicely. Don't really care about his stats atm just want to see him get in the right positions and do the right things......he does look a little bigger too. Can't wait until he gets some muscles.

Yes defensive pressure is one thing, another is crumbing the loose football, you also need forwards with the flexibility to provide a midfield option at contests forward of centre. The more talls we have the worse off we are in this regard.

I think an ideal set up for us would be 2 talls (Riewoldt and Griffiths/Astbury), a marking third tall with good ability below the knees (Taylor/Morton), and 2 crumbing smalls. The sixth would simply be a another midfielder.

Therefore you wouldn't take Darling with pick 4 this year even if he was available as he is 190cm and growing??? That would mena we have 4 young KPF's.

If Griffiths and Astbury show enough I think we have to go another midfielder...continue bolstering that midfield and we will be on the way up very soon.

I like the kid as well. I agree with comments above. don;t really care about his stats . lets just see him present well and work hard in the gym (another 5 KG by next year!) I think we might have a good one here!
