When your national cricket team has just gone undefeated all summer and has 15 tests and 10 ODI's on the trot covered...

and

your footy team has just had the best season of all time and won 38 out of its last 41 games (or so)

its pretty hard to take a 79 point humping out of the blue (ie: you kind of get used to winning and winning well)...

but

AT LEAST ARSENAL THRASHED THAT CHELSEA BLUE SCUM TO MOVE INTO THE LAST 8 OF THE FA CUP!!!

AFTER THUMPING LYON DURING THE WEEK IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE! COME ON YOU GUNNERS!!!

Dan

If we could somehow pull off the FA/ European Double (pretty unlikely but still) as we're likely to be last 8 in both competitions, I think I could handle coming second again in the League, even if it is to that scum...

No Adams, no Keown, no worries.

Fair point.

But I would personally take a win in the premiership over all the others combined. Finishing 2nd for 3 years in a row is pretty frustrating.

Don't worry Gooners, even if you've got a hope on the last day, the northern scum are coming to WHL, so we'll be sure to turn in a few own goals just to ensure you stay exactly where you belong - second.

See you at the Millenium Stadium on May 26.

Okay then...we share "1" thing in common...the EFC.

Whereas...my team...beat the soon-to-be Serie A Champions, AS ROMA, and beat those other Mancs to get into the final 8 of the FA Cup.

WATCH OUT DUTCHMAN.....THE MIGHTY REDS ARE COMING TO GET YA!!!!!

Can't see Liverpool causing us much concern in the Champions League having not, erm, qualified...

Still, a win in a booby prize competition (ie: like the Worthington Cup or the UEFA cup) is better than nothing - particularly as it was against Roma... away... (Ie: yep fair dues)

Hopefully the Reds will be more consistent next year (I like their team - particularly Barmby, Gerrard and Heskey and I like their manager - the 2nd best French manager in the Premiership) as its getting bloody boring being the only team to even vaguely challenge MAn U every year...

Dan,
You are correct when u say that finishing 2nd is very frustrating (isn't it good that in the AFL finishing 2nd in the ladder is not really that different to finsishing top as there is no great prestige attatched to the achievement-LOL)especially with a club like Arsenal who (thankfully )have rarely finished 2nd in their (illustrious)history BUT as a full on gooner who's seen us win 3 titles,3 FA Cups,2 League Cups & 1 European Cup Winners' Cup in my life time I can assure that I would swap winning the Champion's League for anything-it is the ultimate & until we've won it we will never be respected by & placed amongst the greats of European football such as AC Milan Real Madrid Liverpool(not Man U) etc.

It's good to see that you're a fellow gooner & the Dutchman as well but what is it with Essendon supporters following Arsenal as well,I hope there's no Man U/Yankees style link up between the clubs that I haven't heard of cos that would kill me-I can't find a Hawthorn fan who's a gooner as well for love nor money.Instead we've got Hawforce & DCFC who support the hated Tottscum-hey DCFC u should be ashamed of yourself!-LOL.

PS Dutchman,
Arsenal might be all that you've got to cling onto this year cos Essendon r gonna find it hard & Nass & the boys will come steaming into the Aussies for this years Ashes & we're gonna win back that little urn.

On the contrary Dipper

I think Arsenal will probably be the only weak link of those three...

Predictions: Ashes 3:1 to us - Ricky Ponting to go absolutely sick on the Pom attack and make over 1000 runs for the tour.
AFL: Essendon: 17-18 wins and with some luck a back to back flag (but not the stellar season of 2000)
Arsenal: 2nd again (boring, boring, boring, boring... //in joke//)

Congrats to Arsenal and Liverpool for their 5th round victories, but don't you have the feeling that this is the mighty Hammers year for FA Cup glory. They've gone to Man U and kicked butt, as well as Nicky's, and then travelled to Sunderland and again kicked some major Premier League Butt.

The Cups going home ladies.

As a Reds fan...my fondest memory of the season so far was beating ManUre on their own dungheap....Old Fartford !!!

And our 4-0 victory over the Gunners at Anfield was a special moment!

It's hilarious to see how low the theiving grannystabbers have sunk in recent years. Once upon a time, their idea of glory was to win the League Championship and win one of the Cups on offer. Now they wet themselves over beating Manchester United and making it to the Worthless Cup Final!

SB, we can smell it in the air the glory days are comming back. We will start by winning the Worthless cup and then FA and UEFA cups. Then next year we will be in the Champions league which we will win easily as well as the league & cup double. We will make Man Utd look like a team of schoolboys.

DIPPER, it is VERY interesting you say that. For months and months I have tried and TRIED to sell my idea of the top team on the AFL ladder being awarded the premiership. Then, after the premeirship has been won, the top 8 teams then compete in a seperate, elite tournament, that culminates with the traditonal Grand Final as the last match of the year.

This is very similar (admittedly not identical) to the champions league, because you have to finish in the top few to qualify for the SEPARATE champions league tournment. I know the champions league encompasss other top team from other leagues, but the similarity is stil there. Under my proposal, you would only qualify for the spearte AFL finals series if you were one of the top 8 teams. But if you don't win the Grand Final, you would still be recognised as being the best team of the year if you finished top.

A lot of my detractors say that my idea would take away from the Grand Final. But when you said that the champions league is still the number one prize, even though it is completely separate to the "top spot premiership" it should show people that our Grand Final would lose nothing.

Oh by the way, Australia shold have no problem retaining the Ashes, but it will be much harder for us this time. England are greatly improved.

1 champions league championship, is worth 3 premierships.

In teh champs league you have a hard game every week, and you can loose to anyone (remember arsenal lost to that team 3-0 match day 6). And Anderlecht have def. Man Utd and Lazio at home. The EPL has alot of duds, and really theres only 5-8 teams that you should really worry about.

Hehehe-Dan I am more than aware of your arguments over top spot counting for more but the reason that I say the Champion's League is the ultimate is because the team that wins can say that they r champions of a whole continent & not just a country, it's a source of national pride when English teams do well in European competition.

I agree - the Champions league is the club competition holy grail. I would accept coming 2nd for 4 years more if we could win that.

Incidently I've got soft spots for the hammers - and Paolo DiCanio and Joe Cole are two of my fav players - Leeds and Liverpool (AKA theiving grannystabbers??? ). But I can't think of a single nice thing to say about Spurs or Chelsea.

But they all suck arse compared to the gunners.

Yeah, it'd take a West Coast fan to recognise a bandwaonger since you've watched so many of them close up jumping off the Eagles bandwagon (wonky wheels since '94!) after you missed the finals last year, hey?

Nonetheless, it's about the only comeback the thieving grannystabbers have these days isn't it? Don't you worry boy, I've paid my dues in the 80s where the only pleasure I got from following Manchester United was seeing Whiteside, Hughes, and Robson ripping apart the Liverpool midfield every time we played you. Especially Whiteside*...now there was a player.....

Cheers
