We've been too conservative with young players. Has to end.
We've put ourselves in a position whereby we can't avoid playing kids. 16 with 0 games on the list. Another couple that have played a handful. And blokes like Hrovat, Dumont, Daw who have played around 20.

I wonder how much say Joyce had in the cull that took place?

I agree to a certain extent. Mountford and EVW deserved opportunities last year.

It would help however if we drafted kids who weren't twigs needing two years in the gym before they are capable of competing.
We were conservative with Clarke. He should have played earlier. At the least instead of Ray when he came in. Dumont too. Should have had more footy under his belt by now.

I think you're alway going to have a couple of kids who take some time. Injuries haven't helped either.

It's already continuing, Simpkin sitting out main sessions etc.

We have no idea.
you have no idea. there is a thing called apprenticeship, the building up of skills through watching and learning off more experienced types. clearly BS plays players when they're ready - when they can compete strength wise, and run out a game - but there also has to be a spot for them. From music to footy to anthropology - every profession expects younger novices to be mentored as they learn the tricks of the trade.

EVW for Spud? Comic
Mountford for Swallow or Dal Santo? Swallow the captain, no chance.
Dal Santo? Perhaps, I wanted someone to push him out by the end of the year.
Anderson plays a different position
Swallow shouldn't be in the team. Dumont is better than him. Dal Santo was average all year. Spud was shithouse in the second half of the year. Mountford and Clarke could have played the same position as Anderson. Majak should have played instead of Dish for half the season.

None of them deserved a game. Could have made a case for EVW but we had enough 3rd defender types playing anyway
So which is it, none of them, or EVW?

I mean, he should of had his chance and had a few games under his belt. Why would you play Brad McKenzie if you are just going to cut him. Why wouldn't you play your young fellas. These are not smart choices.

yeah, na. Since the beginning of time the music industry has been more than happy to throw young novices into the limelight. And don't get me started on Anthropoligists....those guys live in the dark ages.

Are we being too conservative or is he genuine not right yet? He's 8 months off a broken leg.
Look we are probably doing the right thing but I'd rather we use the sink or swim mentality that other teams choose to go with. Our players get to year 3 and rarely have they debuted which IMO reinforces the negative rhetoric we have to endure re: our team.

A player such as Simpkin is already more skilful than 99% of the senior team, what the **** is he going to learn at Avalon?

Throw him in the deep end and watch him swim his way out of trouble.

I tend to agree, the young first rounders at GWS had no choice but to get playing exposure because they had a whole team of them. Fast forward 4 years on and they have studs all over the park, so I can see your point regarding giving exposure to midfield guys like Simpkin & Clarke.

However, I can understand the rationale behind giving the bigger guys like Durdin and McKay more time to develop because they were built like Ethiopian marathon runners coupled with injury concerns. Playing a physically underdeveloped big man against guys like Tomahaw and Rance will not end well.

Clarke moves like a pre-gear'd Ben Cousins and will be a jet, add Simpkin, Ahern and in a couple of years time we will be 'delicious'..

Clarke unfortunately isn't half as good as a young Cousins. Still a great young prospect but doesn't have the skills by foot that the young Shard Lord possessed.

Tend to agree that young talls should be given time, just less time than Mason Wood who was ****** around with for far too long.

I'm hearing that Scotts is trying to sell a rebuild to the board but the board ain't buying it. Wouldn't be suprised that Scotts is regretting moving on some of the senior type. Wouldn't be suprised that he plays his most experienced line up in an attempt to remain competitive. Otherwise if we don't perform Scotts contract could very well be terminated a bit over a year to go. :stern look
