Ugh I would really like a fellow West Aussie right now. We don't have VCE's or whatever they'e called.

The whole ATAR thing is tediously confusing. I swear the old TEE never seemed this hectic and hard to grasp.

To be fair though, I genuinely think the history/philosophy teachers I have are clueless. I write consistently informative, intellectual, persuasive arguments in both - they're bolstered by fact and information from the course itself. I'm quite harsh on myself, so it's not like i'm thinking like a conspiracy theorist. I'm not going to alter my work ethic or anything, i'll still try, but I just really hope I get a decent examiner.

Woe is me (and woe is you, and woe is us together [I will perform unspeakable deeds if anyone understands that reference]).

every stage three course gets 15 extra bonus marks. People often get confused with this and think that means an extra 15%, in reality it means about a 2-3% increase on all your scores. taking into account your 15 bonus marks for every stage 3 course, you've got an average of about 71%, which last time i checked equals an ATAR of about 91.00..... before scaling. english 3a/3b will be scaled against all english 2c/2d marks, meaning your score of 85 will most likely be scaled up.

p.s. are you not doing a maths course?
 
As a rule of thumb, add 20 to your average and its usually there abouts, but it changes regarding how well good your year is (obviously as its a ranking)

Average of 70 across the board, will get you 90 TER
Average of 60 across the board, will get you 80 TER

They usually have a calculator on the curriculum council website. I probably spent more time calculating my score than actually studying last year :)
 
I'm not doing a maths, no. I did 2A/B last year and got absolutely killed - I got a D. It wasn't worth it, as it was never going to help me.

you probably know that that would make it difficult to get into certain courses. i'm assuming since you're striving for an 80 you're trying to gain entrance into UWA, with their new course of study you'll probably be required to do a few maths courses in your time at the uni.
 
All courses of interest at UWA (or, any uni really) have no maths pre-requisites, nor, require mathematics in the actual course. I've already checked things out.
 
How easy is it to get a 40 in english? So far, i've gone a+, a+, a+, a, so probably top 10% of the year level (no idea what my percentages were, we just get letter marks). Hoping for 40 in that, high 30s in Methods, Mid 30s in History and Jap and maybe a 30 if i'm lucky in spec...
 
Dude, if you can get a 40 in Eng (which with A+'s repeated on the exam you will) you should be able to kill a History subject.

Yeah revs, i'm not quite sure. We've only done two sacs, probably sitting about 10th out of 35-40 so far. I just stuffed up (a little bit) the take home essay, but i've been like that in history since the start of year 11. Do well for the most, but then pull out a pretty crap mark every now and then for some reason. I much prefered Russia to China too, which is what we're getting into now

The essay is where it's won on the exam, good English students can write great History essays.

If you are keen to do well in any subject, not just Revs, do as many practice exams as possible.

I know it's a pain to get them marked but most subjects, especially Revs, are weighted very heavily in favor of the exam.

I know a guy who averaged C's for the first semester, A's in the second and got 44 at the end of the year.

So how much study should a good English student do for History? I've been getting around 50's through pure laziness (barely doing work in class, never revising), and 80's to 90's in English. I studied for about 40 minutes prior to doing an in-class on Monday - I got 17.5/25. So how much do I study to absolutely 'pwn' the subject?
 
Got my predicted ATAR today:

67.87%

Absolutely gutted. Was realistically hoping for a push toward 80, expecting a mid 70's. Philosophy gets scaled down 15%, which ruined my average - and with that average, I would've been getting close to, if not, 80's.

Anyone do Philosophy last year? What was your scaling like?

Economics - 50
Philosophy - 60

These are conservative estimates. And I do next to no study. Could my school have just lowered my potential ATAR simply to invigorate interest in study?
