My motivation is dead, almost literally. Only marks that have stayed constant are Bus Man (A+'s) and English (B-B+). I've got other subjects which I've done pretty well in all year and just faded towards the end to the state where I'm actually getting concerned (ie. As/A+s in midyears down to 55% for my last sac ).

Had my last SAC for the year today so I'm happy they're all over and done with, but I just want the next 36 days to be over.

Agreed with this post. Motivation and focus is nearly G.O.N.E.

Buddy, it's gonna be a long next 3 weeks of studying.

Haha not to worry, I'm the same.

*Now to get back to my English crap.

Yep, really hard to motivate myself at all. Far too much to indulge in (trade week this week, buying tickets for Laneway next week...). I am just.. I don't see much point, especially considering i'll just do one year at Murdoch/Curtin and then i'm going to any Melbourne uni the year after.

Woe is me.

37 days for me!
I'm doing about 3-4 hours of homework per night, given up facebook which has actually helped. No longer having my "breaks" extended from 10 minutes to an hour by fb chat ;)
Although i do need 91 to get the course i want (architecture at monash) so i have to push hard! Only problem with general study is i do the stuff i like, then subjects like jap and spesh hardly get done at all...

80.40
Sports Journalism at La Trobe.

It's hard to stay focused because school's so sh*t atm with people finding time to pick fights and bitch, yet exams are going on. Mostly the f*ckin' no hopers.

The rest of my life starts the day my Legal Exam finishes on the 15th of November @ 5.15pm.

I have a gig on Community Radio lined up all ready to go during the summer, a place to live in the city and a job at my uncle's law firm doing administrative stuff for pay.

Yep, same here buddy.

Nice work. :thumbsu:

Funnily enough, I'll be doing Law next year. What name's the firm just out of curiosity? <can PM me answer if you wish>

Have you thought about doing Architecture at Melbourne uni ? it only requires 86.

I have, but then you have to do 3 years of enviornments, and need to get good marks (i think an average of 70%+ in the second and third years) to get into architecture.

My fall back is architecture/construction management at deakin waterfront which is about 83, but pretty keen to leave Geelong to be honest.

Spesh teacher today told us that this year it is being scaled up roughly three more than previous years, pretty good news this late in the piece :thumbsu::thumbsu:

Yup, as said motivation is quite low at the moment. I did decently last year so don't need outrageous marks for my subjects this year to get into what I want so complacency is quite high on my behalf.

Just want to get it all over and done with.

Yeah got that news from my teacher as well, very good to hear.

Wouldn't be surprised if VCAA attempted to compensate for that however with some ridiculous exams!

Do you guys know the scalings for everything else? I've heard Philosophy gets scaled 15. But I find that absolutely ludicrous. My school told me this, but I believe it was an incentive for kids to try harder. Why would a 3A/B class get scaled 15, when a 2C/D gets scaled about 10 to 15.

I have not done any study for ages. Hoping my mocks scare the shit out of me with some "wow I need to actually need to find out about the Brisbane line more!".

The scaling for each subject is different each year, the only thing you can do is try your best in everything.

Stage 3 subjects do not get scaled up 15, that's a common misconception. This is how it works:

All stage 3 subjects receive 15 bonus marks.

For example, a student scores 62% in 3A/3B Human Biology:

62+ 15 bonus marks = 77

which is then divided by the total marks to get the new percentage

77/115 = 67%

Stage 2 subjects get nothing.

BUT, with maths it is different:

2C/2D receives 10 bonus marks

3A/3B receives 20 bonus marks

3C/3D receives 30 bonus marks

hope this helps....

But I find your better off forgetting about the 15 marks, and scaling all together

Motivate yourself to do well, and the scaling will be a bonus
My pre-TER marks (including increments) was looking at getting me 90+, so i slacked off, thinking that even with scaling and increments i'd be within 90
ATAR calculators can be really distracting
Ended up with 86 :(

ATAR's a joke. You want people to fail in your subject so the subject scores higher. And how does maths applied and maths methods, for example, score the same usually when the latter's much harder. It's just that smarter people do methods and thus many people still get good marks. If you need to score high-90s, sometimes it is just luck whether you get there or not. You may get the top mark in particular subject but only score 18 points (well in Tasmania marks anyhow).

Normally 1 or 2 of those are a methods/spesh exam 1 which takes roughly 40 minutes, so it's not too bad.

I go through phases where I'm really motivated and I'll knock off a tonne of study in a few nights, and then I'll drop off for a day or two before I pick up again. Also, I can't believe how close exams are :S

Haha 3 exams a night, damn. I'm not doing one a night yet, still revising over notes/getting bound references together.

I guess people learn differently, I did 2 prac exams last year (plenty of revising over notes) for BusMan and got a B+ for the exam.

3 exams a night is mammoth though, very motivated. Good on you! :thumbsu:

I think people spend too much time on reference books for maths. Alot of people i know rewrote their books, and are spending alot of time looking up specific questions to copy and paste in. I don't think i've once used my book in methods this year, and when i did need my book in spesh it was only for a couple of formulae that weren't on the sheet.

Anyone else just wondering what score they'd get if they jsut gave up now and stopped studying? I had to go to school for every subject for practice exams on the holidays, and my marks weren't so bad without study....Almost tempting. But not quite tempting enough.

Had a Jap oral on Monday. Thought it went quite well, as well as i hoped because i was stressin' a little bit over it. Probably the exam i was least looking forward to, because of the 'on-the-spotness' and no time to search for an answer. And my detailed study was pretty shit.

I'm probably doing about 3hours of hw a night, but aiming for more. Doing an english essay every second day (and seeing rewards, consistantly getting 9/10 now), just finishing up my history notes and done about 15 spesh exams and 20+ methods. Al.most.fin.ished.
