Sam's result has made my day :thumbsu: Finally she finishes off a huge win over a top player, doesn't matter how bad Safina is playing, beating the world's no.2 is an incredibly tough ask. This win gets her to about 33 i heard and if she can beat Mauresmo she should be back in the top 30. Needs to at least beat Mauresmo and make the quarters now.

Safin had two mp's against monfils. Hit a few too many ue's at the wrong times, almost like you knew Safin was going to lose when he missed those chances.

Ivanovic also out today

With a pretty significant assignment due Friday, I seriously don’t think I’ll be able to watch any tennis for the time being. I’ll try and get it done today so I can relax and watch the past few days play but with the way I’m going that could be a stretch. I might even just IQ everything and “start” the tournament when I’m ready avoiding all results in the process.

Shoulder is not healing the way she hopes. I don't balme her for making sure she's healthy. What were the odds on that Wimby bet?

Only watched about 15 mins of Delic/Cilic this morning, not much to say, Delic could be an alright player if he concentrated better.

The odds were 22-1, so I do like a punt and at that range to a proven slam winner (even with an injury) it is not the worst bet in the world, considering she has won Wimbledon before.

That's always annoying, got to have those due in weeks like last week like mine were ;) Uni obivously hasn't got their schduling right.

Yeah, 22-1 is pretty decent considering the unpredictablity of the WTA tour and a former champion. Probably better to see what she is doing after the clay court season to comment further on that.

I'm frustated with James' slump right now. His backhand is compltely useless one again (a couple of years ago at his peak, it was an alright shot), doesn't know what he is doing court and seems like he doesn't care that greatly. Where was the James for matches like the US Open a few years back with Federer where he just fed off the crowd support and just hit blinding winners everywhere.

Sam is again on court 1 or 2 so away from the TV and main courts, hope this helps her again, it would be great if she can backup this Safina win.

Geez, the Ten News sports reports doesn't even mention Sam's win, i know there was no tv coverage of this but for the biggest win for an australian for a long time is rather disgraceful  Coverage outside of the slams is non-existant

You can thank FoxSports for that. 3 bloody channels, still not enough time for any decent coverage. Granted they show a bit of the ATP, but would be nice to see a WTA match once in a while. Although they were very very kind to show the semi/final of IW.

Anyone watch through TennisTv?
I'd prbably pay $170AUD or whatever it is to be guaranteed some decent coverage.

Edit -
* Sony Ericsson WTA Tour live streaming is NOT available in Australia, in Europe and other certain territories - see FAQs

Why the **** not?
They could at least have decency to let them show the earlier rounds.

I am surprised the Stosur win gets so little attention. This tournament is the tier just under the Grand Slam and the media couldn't give a stuff. SEN didn't mention Stosur's win in any of the Sport Central updates until after I messaged them at 8.

And the lack of coverage of WTA tour tennis is terrible. Foxtel have the rights to tournaments, but don't show any of it. Instead we get bloody poker, which is not a sport.

She's through to the quarters!

Beat Mauresmo 6-4 6-4

Azarenka up next.

Wait, woah step back, she got a mention on the Today Show.

Yep, that's actually how i found out the result this morning, that's the first mention of this run Sam has been having in any of these news reports over the last couple of days.

Great that she back up the Safina win, now through to the quarters of a tournament like this, shows she can mix it with the best hopefully. Vika might be a bit strong for her but we'll see. Surely this match will be on the stadium court, don't care what time it's on, i'm finding a livestream for it.

EDIT: They have given her the night match, Not before 10am our time

She gets 250 points from making the quarter final and would rise to around #30 or 31 in the world. However, if she wins the 1/4 final and makes the semis, she would rise to somehwere around #24. That would be her highest ever ranking.

She has done very well this tournament, beating seeds in 3 consecutive rounds. However, Azarenka is one of the form players this year, playing at a near top 5 standard when you compare her to other girls at the moment. If Stosur can beat Azarenka tomorrow, I would be most impressed with that victory compared to the other wins she has had this week. I really hope she does it.

Azarenka beat Sam earlier int he eyar pretty comfortably i think. I don't think it's a great matchup for Sam and as you said, she's playing like a top 5 player. I hope she can do it, that would be a even more massive win. Doesn't matter what happens, it has been a great tournament.

I really enjoy these tournaments, so glad for foxtels extensive coverage

Pretty poor with the women's coverage though, from 2am- 10am tomorrow they have mens coverage, then (while stosur's game is on) they show a replay of the AUS-SAF 20/20 Match, Before rejoining the main stadium at 12pm to show Nadal play( whos match is right after Stosurs on the same court). Why would they deliberately exclude it from the scheldue, even when no men's tennis ( or any other tennis) game is on?

It just boggles the mind.

I guess cus Ivanovic got knocked out early :p

Lol, Federer will play Roddick int he quarters if Fed beats Dent which he will. Roddick shouldn't even show up knowing their history..

Watched the last few games, all I can say that was horrific. She didn't play very well or with any type of gameplan. Got to say this might take way the confidence she gained from this week. It was embrassing. Still a QF at an event like this is new ground so good week overall, might take a few days to get over that masscare that just happened.
