Deserves its own thread.

Best tournament of the year apart from the grand slams.

The inclusion of Davydenko and Soderling is underwhelming for me, as is Roddick's absence.

Still looking forward to it a lot though.

Murray vs. del Potro
Federer vs. Verdasco

Monday, 23 November
Nadal vs. Soderling
Djokovic vs. Davydenko

Come on Power King, Davydenko won a Masters Series 1000 event and Soderling is a GS finalist. Verdasco would be worse than those two, his record against these other players is something like 7-30, embarrassing.

Am looking forward to this a lot, and very tempted to watch Murray/Del Potro and get about 2-3 hours sleep tonight in the process. The early match is at 1.15am and then the late one is at 7.45am.

Djokovic is my tip to defend his title, he's the form player coming in but really anybody probably could win this apart from Verdasco or Soderling.

Looks like it's stream time for the first match. Thanks Foxtel.

Davydenko and Djokovic are clearly the standout picks for the week. Everyone else is either injured or just playing shit. Nadal won't win a match, and i'd bet my life on Del Potro retiring at some stage.

Great to finally see a stadium full once again after the last couple of months! Fed/Verdasco locked in the 3rd set, Verdasco was on top up to about 4-4 in the second set, but Fed has lifted his game and will win it comfortably from here.
This week is going to be fantastic, a very good line up and every match will hopefully live up to the standards of the top 8 players.
Murray defeated Del Potro in 3 sets, cant believe Foxtel did not show it live, especially as they have been advertising this tournament for the last few weeks.

Will probably get around to posting more later, but I enjoyed Murray/Del Potro, game of momentum shifts. Was all set for a cracking final set but unfortunately Del Potro dropped his level of play.

Federer/Verdasco was good for two sets, Fernando playing some of the best tennis I've seen from him. After he lost the 2nd there was only going to be one winner and he too lost his way in the 3rd. Did anyone see his smash attempt? Worst shot I have EVER seen in my life.

Matt, I'm not disputing whether or not they deserve to be there, just that from my perspective/bias, I don't enjoy watching those specific players from a neutral point of view.

If anyone is wondering why Nadal was so utterly useless tonight, he was the last leg of my multibet. That'll explain it. F***ing disgraceful he was.

bryan twins in the doubles are going dooown and i now choose to avoid there matches. nadal is a major let down recently too as everyone knows.

I'm a bit concerned about him, he cannot even get near top players right now, and really hasn't since his come back. I hope his injuries haven't derailed him. It might take him some time to get back his form possibly.....
Anyway, don't think it's looking terribly good.

Oh god he was woeful, at times he couldnt even return Soderling's 2nd serve. Making uncharacteristic errors and just looked completely out of it the whole time. It's as if he knew he was beat from the outset. He called some stupid challenges, and then didnt call what would've been an ace at 40-30 to make it 5-5 in the 1st set. Soderling wins the game and the set from there, massive turning point in the game.

Nadal struggled badly on serve, and was had no reply for the majority of the time Soderling served. He needed to work him over side to side and force Soderling into the error and looked decent when he did, but it didn't happen often enough and basically it was due to him missing simple shots. I remember 4 or 5 shots he did where it was like WOW him at his best, but it was few and far between the garbage he dished up for the rest of the match.

True test for Nadal will be the clay court season next year, then we will be able to really tell whether he has lost it. He has come back after injury on mostly hard indoor courts, which have never really suited Nadal.

Nadal doesn't appear to have the confidence to hit winners and make the play himself currently to me. Seems to be just defending and hoping. Zero confidence, I wouldn't be surprised if he has some personal issues at the moment.

He's young and is a proven superstar though, I'm confident he'll be back. He's still fairly young, I think people forget just how young he is.

Fed started off poorly again but was absolutely outstanding from the 2nd set onwards. Easily the best form he has shown since the US Open.

He has also sewn up the year end number 1 ranking for the 5th time in his career. It sure is great to see the champ reclaim his rightful position :thumbsu:

Lleyton Hewitt, Marat Safin, Andy Roddick and Michael Chang all say hello from the "we're still young brigade".

Where is Total Power?

Novak is probably too hot at the moment and is the player to beat!

Fed was able to pick it up in the 2nd set, just collapsed in the first to give Murray the break. Murray served awfully, that 2nd serve is just going to get smashed if he keeps doing it like that. Fed still hasn't wrapped up a semi spot though.

Tonight should be interesting, Davydenko is actually favourite against Nadal now

Think Nadal might get up against Davydenko tonight. Djokovic is playing really well, and so is Fed, apart from the opening set of both matches. I can't pick between Fed and Djoko for the title, but I'll go with Fed.
All the matches have been super close as well, with all but one of the matches going to 3 sets. Great crowds, great end of season tourney so far.

Nadal and Djoko both lost today.

You may think he's over-rated, losing it, in decline, beatable etc etc but the bottom line is when it matters Federer comes to play. His grand slam record and consitentcy in big tournaments will be unmatched.

He just gets easy draws.

Interesting that Djokovic can still be knocked out even if he beats Nadal if Davydenko beats Soderling. Nadal is out now, Davydenko was good again today, nearly choked that 2nd set away but got it Nadal only seems to be showing glimpses of himself this week.

Djokovic is the number one playter in the world that shits me.

Purely from a 'results not matching his talent' point of view, he's already reminding me of safin..................

I get your point, but from a pedantic point of view, roddick is a bit different to the others there in that he has remained a top player throughout his career, it's just that one man has stood in his way of so many grand slams for over half a decade.
