This may be old ground but here goes…….

Being at the top means you get the rest of the pack hunting you.

Who is most likely to bite Essendon next year? (for the smart arses, I will save you the time in responding ‘NOBODY’

Good solid well thought out post!

Provided injuries aren't a massive factor, can't see anyone getting near us. Just too even all over the ground and have the depth to give us that flexibility edge over any other club. Remember we still have Jacobs and Rioli to accomodate for in our premiership side. Just think how hungry they'll be next year. Scary!

Melbourne will be our biggest challengers next year. Have a young, talented list, in which a few guys were unlucky to miss finals action through injury. Whelan and Wheatley were two of these injuries and are promising backmen, whilst Bruce and Green will be better for the experience up forward. Also have picked up Berbakov from Essendon, who was desperately inlucky no to get a game last year, by virtue of badly times injuries. He'd be a welcome addition up back for the dees, which I think, is their one weakness.

Yeah, dees1, slight exaggeration. Berbs is doing a pre-season with you guys and provided he gets his knee right, Neale Daniher said Melb will take him in the draft.

The article was in last weeks Sun. But let me tell you, if Berbs can get fit, he be invaluable up back for you blokes. Also has the flexibility to play up forward as well. He was very unlucky at Essendon this year, as he was on the verge of selection, before breaking down with his knee.

He was very well thought of at Essendon.

No offence to Dees supporters, but I think they're a touch overrated. Sure they have a young, talented list that made the Grand Final but all this talk of challenging Essendon seems a little premature. Their defence is a big achilles heel and if Neitz has to go down back, too much is relied upon the inconsistent Farmer and the 'past it' Schwarz.

I think teams like the Kangaroos, the Hawks and the Lions are bigger threats to Ess. next year. As always, the competition should be close apart from the Bombers, however the Dees are just one of a number of good teams that will challenge in the top eight.

I hear that Mr Ripper. Many a mighty team has fallen when a dynasty looked likely. What if Lloyd done a knee round 1. What if Fletcher went down. Sure they can be covered temporarily but not all year. It's a fine line between success and failure. Enjoy it Dons. This is exactly the attitude that Carlton fans get bagged out for. Essendon tried to play down their chances all year and I'd imagine they wouldn't want their supporters fueling the players egos. Time and time again history has proven the point.

Are you Bomber fans doing your club a disservice????

ODNB,

What do you want us to do ? Predict we are going to fail !

I'm well aware of 1986, but who says history will repeat ?

I prefer to look at 1985, one year after we had won a Grand Final. Look what happened then. Hopfully, 2000 was our 1984, and 2001 is our 1985. Then in 2002, Sheedy, with the knowledge of what happened in 1986, will make sure it doens't happen again, which makes 2002 our third flag in a row.

Hows that for arrogance !

Nearly there Dan old son, nearly there.

But you need to take it a step further or 2 to be more convincing. You have managed to take it up a notch to the 'Make me wanna pewk' level of arrogance.

But ya haven't made it to the 'Lets just shoot the bastard to shut him up' level.

Keep working hard old son. You will get there.

It's hard to be negative when you know you are the greatest team in the history of sport. Adored, by thousands, despised by those unfortunate enough to support the opposition, Essendon are the greatest club in the history of sport, any sport. Period.

We are simply that damn good. It's only a matter of time before September 2001, sees Australia, once again, turn red and black all over.

We are quite simply an unbelievable, oustanding, splendifferous team, the envy of everyone who follows sport in this country.

Funny Dan.....I seem to remember we were one up on you until this year. 16 premierships in 104 seasons probably doesn't make either of us totally dominant now does it?

I don't expect you to predict the Bombers to lose but quiet confidence is quite an asset.
You wear your heart on your sleeve and there is nothing wrong with that. I am merely stating that players and clubs often feel the pressure of public expectation.

Being over the top about it doesn't endear yourself to others (I know you don't care one iota about that). Maybe you have become the Essendon equivalent of your Carlton stereotype?

Agreed Robbo.

2000 was our pre-season. 2001 is where we start to try.

I think we can get a percentage of 200 in the home and away. The first club to ever do it. This wold mean we could double our opponents score on average.

The other clubs are all itrrelevant, since 2001 is simply our year. It's all ours.....

Ah Dan, good try cobber! But ya still aint got it right! Pure arrogance comes from the heart and mind, and flows from the mouth.

Yours still sounds like it is dribbling from the arse!

Keep trying tho, sure you will make it one day.

Keep trying Dan you have almost got the arrogance right. You still sound like an amateur though. Which I guess is what you really are. You have only just reached the top, but in reality you not actually there. You are only sharing it with Carlton aren't you? To learn real arrogance, take a lesson from those who have been at the top for a long, long time - Carlton supporters. It takes many years to be able to be arrogant and make it sound credible. Not just one outstanding season.

Oh please,
What sort of credibility do you have? You are not even registered. Or are you one of the Essendon regulars in disguise? Bumble? What's that an add on to my tag? Who do you support anyway? BTW I seen a lot of premierships. It wouldn't matter how may though would it? Because what ever it was I bet it would be more than most supporters of other clubs combinded. Why don't you register and state who you support? Or is it like I said a bummer fan in disguise!

Old Dark Navy Blus and Bee,

The VFL/AFL has been around for 104 seasons. Carlton has competed in ALL 104 seasons. In 1916 and 1917, Essendon didn't compete due to World War 1.

This means that Essendon has only competed in 102 seasons.

So, our 16 premierships have come in 102 seasons, while it has taken Carlton 104 seasons to accumlte their 16 premierships. This means Essendon has a beter strike rate. It's true.

So, there you have it. Essendon are on top of the mountain. Carlton are looking up and al they can see is the backside of Essendon who are climbing up....up..... to win the premeirship flag (number 17)

I really should say one thing :

All my "predictions" about next year should really be taken with a grain of salt. I love to "gloat" and "brag", but this doesn't mean I am totally serious. Far from it.

I am well aware that Essendon has got a lot of work to do, and will be hard pressed to repeat their 2000 season.

But let me have my fun.
