The bloke simply dislikes AFL, and has form for this type of behaviour in previous years. The AFL needs to plant an AFL man like the Suns have at Metricon which by the way has a far superior surface and is a superior ground to watch the footy at.

Good luck with that one. Will never happen and rightly so.

Why does it have to be that particular pitch? Are all the other strips no good?

That was the pitch being prepared for the test match. Pitch would be the one bang in the middle usually or one off the centre. I prefer the test pitch to be as centred as possible.

Lions will be playing next week there, so don't stress. It is only a womens GF that has been moved and you can watch it at Carrara.

I'd resent the afl if that happened.
The curator at any test venue in this country has one primary objective, to prepare wickets for the summer, AFL/NRL can work around that, they should be the afterthought not the party kowtowed to.

Lets take a moment to remember the GABBA before the AFL

and lets take a moment to remember where Brisbane played before they moved to the Gabba.

ironically, the same stadium the women will be playing this week. It is a shared stadium. These things happen. The Gabba wouldnt be the Gabba today without AFL or cricket.

That is incredibly unfair! Just because it is the AFLW doesn't mean it should be treated with any less respect than any other sport.
It doesn't matter if it's the AFL or Kevin Mitchell's fault, the fact it is it has been an awesome competition and it now has to end on a sour note.
The Gabba should've been jumping at the chance to host such a historical event. It was made clear by round 3 that whoever the team that finished first was had the right to host the gf in their home city.
The lions have been the clear standout of the competition since round 1 and they should've been preparing since then with or without the AFL telling them to.
Now it's a shame that the women have to be lowered to a curtain raiser because of either a lack of communication or a lack of respect.

Yes agreed and the less drop in wickets the better.

Without the political clout that the AFL brings to the table cricket grounds don't get developed have a look at the WACA for an example

It's been a lovely competition and the GF will be lovely at Carrara. It is only 50 minutes from the GABBA...people are acting like GC is 10 hours away. It is a ONE hour drive, that is it. Free public transport so make a day of it and stop whinging.

The issues with the wickets will be completely fixed by the time the Lions play round 2. That is good enough for me considering the Ashes is a lot more important for the GABBA in 2017.

If the AFL wanted the ground, book the ground, and not just 2 weeks before the final for once.

I'm glad the GABBA hasn't bowed down to the AFL demands.

Fix the wickets, get on with the AFL season at the GABBA starting next week.

it works both ways. It is not a one-way street. Boot Oval in Tassie wouldnt be the stadium it is without the Cricket World Cup or international cricket. Just look at Waverley, football park or Subi. These football-only stadiums weren't developed either.

Governments want stadiums to be used year round and sharing with afl/cricket/others has many many benefits. the only problem is that you have to share the fantastic stadium.

You're missing the point. It's because of this stupid decision that the women now have to be looked at as no more than a curtain raiser to the men instead of being a competition in their own right, which was exactly what we didn't want.
The women will cop it and it will still be a fantastic day, but they shouldn't have to. They should've been treated with respect and given their home city advantage

Then the AFL should have booked the ground 3 months earlier and not expect every ground to take it lying down as per usual. Blame the AFL.

The cricket especially the Ashes is more important than an AFLW GF, that is just reality. This is in main a cricket ground, it would be different if it was the MCG, the GABBA is completely different.

you can't be serious......booking every major stadium on the off chance the AFLW GF will be played there? yeah nah, they'd be muggs to do that.

Yes. Kevin Mitchell may have won this battle but the AFL will win the war.

Then stop whinging and let cricket prepare the pitch. It's a critical test series we need to get the pitch right.

NO AFL games will be not be played there. The Lions Rd2 game will be on so how about we give the curator some time to get it right.

The AFLW game is at Carrara and it will be fine

lol. so first they should book it even though there's every chance it wouldn't be there, to now let cricket, cricket loses the rights to the stadiums over winter

Lions Rd.2 is 10 days away, hardly the amount of time he wants to ensure it sown properly - 4 weeks was it? - noticably the GABBA has been entirely silent on whether the stadium will be ready......keeping in mind the AFL holds power down south and will make CA pay for this big time.

If its this crucial why didn't the QCA ban all footy from the Gabba?
