Anyway, spoke to Rohan Sawyers. Given this is a public forum, I will head some of the warnings from other posts and not really delve into detail - he was quite nice to me on the phone and did take time out his busy schedule

He did say that a lot of the decisions were just based on the way the umpire saw it e.g Thornton dropped mark

On the Fevola decision, umpire was technically correct. However, because the obstruction happened so close to the mark, the umpire could have also simply put Fevola back to his mark to take the kick again (or play on) - that may have also been technically correct (For obvious reasons, Sawyers was uncommital on this point)

Hopefully this settles it then. Many of the decisions the umpires made were technically correct so there you have it folks.

Didn't quite get those 4 points "back" :D

So you ultraflooded because? lol. The Crows have been playing this extreme defensive rubbish footy for about 3-4 years now, to compensate for an aging list low on talent. It get's you into the 8, but not much more. There was even a Port-Crows supporter in this thread who called making the 8 "success". lol. It's all a little sad. :)

We played defensive in 2007. We had a normal number of players behind the ball against Carlton there was no 'ultra-flooding' about it.

We played defensive in 2007. ....

Crows are still playing the same ultradefensive rubbish in 2008 I'm afraid. It's just a fact i.e. bottom-4 scoring in 2008, and bottom-4 scoring against in 2008. Dull, lifeless, ratings-destroying, supporter torturing, yawnfest, ultraflooding rubbish football, that has been a slur on our great game for the past 3-4 years. :)

Carlton average 7.9 points per game more than Adelaide.

That is the difference between boring and exciting football? 7.9 points?

That is the difference between boring a..

Floodelaide are bottom 4 scoring-for and bottom 4 scoring-against. Them's the fact's and not suprising BTW, given the ultradefensive rubbish gameplan you need to adopt. Oh and yes, kicking almost goal and a half more per game on average IS significant. You'll have to go back to the drawing board and work out another way to downplay these numbers. lol. :)

And 2006!

Highlight of that season was when Ninthmond beat you at your own game prompting Kevin Sheedy to label your brand of football as 'basketball crap' :D

As I said to another poster, read between the lines. He is hardly going to explictly tell me that the umpires were wrong

It's no secret our forward lines have been our weakness but it's also no secret that our defense is one of the best in the league.

Adelaide flooding more than other teams is a myth designed to make teams feel better when their forwards are beaten.

EVERYONE knows about he Crows ultraflooding tactics. It's hardly news. lol. :)

No it isn't news, it's a myth. It makes teams feel good to say "Adelaide play boring defensive crap" We haven't changed our style all year. The style that has produced 2 of the top 3 most exciting games this year. (Check the exciting game thread) v WB and the first Showdown.

We have been hot and cold but that happens when you cut a third of your list.

It's funny that Geelong are playing the exact same gameplan as the "Crowbots" of 05-06 and yet our efficiency was seen as a negative and 'boring', the Cats doing the same are suddenly exciting.

2006 when we were 2nd in points for?

Second in points for, second lowest points against and second lowest on the ladder, no one disputes that 2006 was a very good season for you, which is what made it all the richer when Ninthmond beat you at your own game.

...and it's all been downhill from there

Geelong may start with numbers in the backline which they then use to run the ball through the midfield with handpassing and a play on at all costs, not even close to Adelaide's chip kicking the ball around to maintain possession style of play.

Well after finishing 2nd it was always more likely that we would slide than rise.

It is identical to our 05-06 gameplan and we kick the ball backwards no more during the game than other teams. Yes we wound down the last few minutes against you but every team does that now days when in the position we were.

Also if you had been watching Adelaide this year, we have been handpassing at all costs. The trouble has been in the execution (it's hard to run if the handpasses bounce first, make the palyer have to stop/slow down or jump).

The good thing from a Crows fan's perspective is that it has been steadily getting better, targets are being hit more frequently and we are getting back to a skill level where our gameplan will work properly.

Finally, we are in agreement :D

Yep, there's a little bit of "near enough is good enough" Collingwood loser mentality about it all. lol. Watching that flooding rubbish they play week in week out, must be torture for their supporters. :)

I never said I was satisfied with second. It is always the goal to win flags. It just isn't a shock that the team that finished second didn't improve on it the next year. I think you'll find most teams who finish 2nd have a worse result the next year.

I called the AFL yesterday to complain about the umpiring in the Carlton/Adelaide match. They said I was the only person to complain about the match but they would get someone to call me after the Monday review

This morning, I received a message from Rohan Sawyers and he left a return number

Clearly, we can't get the 4 points but at least we should keep the umpiring honest or someone should pay for it! Anyway, here is a list of incidents from the game (from bluebear)

Thornton mark not paid
Moran fingernail in the back from Grigg
Moran shoves Jammo under the ball, no call
Thornton taken high in the C Sq not paid
Shepherd on Fev playing on from 50m armchairs them into F50 for a goal........

Please add and I will run through each one and report back

I will be very busy at work this afternoon so if someone else wants to do it, feel free to volunteer and i will post the number

Once again, we can't get the 4 points back, but someone should be made accountable

On review the Grigg push on Moran was there, and a bit more than a fingernail..........but:

Jamison run too far on the wing - 15 steps.........I counted.
Moran push Austin under the ball in the Goal sq.
Fev high contact from Rutten in the fourth from trailing arm from spoil.
Fisher held in marking contest 30m out in the fourth (oppositon players arms clearly around his waist and restricting him)
Gibbs high tackle......opponent dropped as the tackle was laid - same as ducking the head..........subsequent 50m hurt as Gibbs hit Wiggins on 50m.
Fisher head over the ball at CHF in the fourth.......hit high - no free.
Walker bump on Bock in the C sq judged high........it was in the side
Brownes "push in the back" on the wing......his arm came from the side and the Crows player dived.
Thornton's mark - controlled the ball, late spoil - goal.
Judd clearly being held by the arm on the near wing in the fourth when trying to run to the footy.

Enough?

Not that I looked.:D

'"tell me about it, kicked 6 points in the last 10 minutes, its simple, we missed out oppourtunities to win the game, so just give it a break guys.. wats done is done, no going back!!

Yeah, what's done is done.

No, Kevin Sheedy said that about Richmond?

Get your facts straight mate.

He did say it about Richmond, who employed your own game plan against you and beat you at it, so he did say it about your brand of football
