I just thought might want to know that Chasers will be closing its doors forever this weekend. I stopped going in the early 90s, but how many of these nights did you go to......Vertigo, Funktion, Club Go Fast, Delirium, Times Square, Outlaw Hard And Fast, Xpress, Hysteria, FAT......?

Wow that's kinda weird but not altogether in the same league as say Mieta's or the P.O.W. debacle.

Much like yourself I went to Chasers pretty regularly between say 85 and 91 but it was pretty over IMHO since then... saw some kick arse live music there over the years and it was a great venue for that intimate feel... bands I saw there include:

1. Sonics (89 - kicked ass - Teenage Riot tour)
2. The Church (yawn)
3. The Go-Betweens (probaby 5 times at the venue - some of the best shows I'd seen them do - plenty of "Karen" finales..)
4. Ed K. (loads)
5. Roland Howard and his Immortal Souls bollocks

Outlaw Hard n fast was really good initially with James the Hound Dog DJ'g with Sympathy for the Devil on high rotation... went to Vertigo, Funktion, Club Go Fast, Delirium, Times Square, Outlaw Hard And Fast but not to Xpress, Hysteria, FAT......?

Oh well, another one bites the dust... our shared cultural heritage is toast mate! (are the Lounge, the Club, Id's - ie: Continental and the Cadilac bar still going?)

Agree Dutchy, Chasers went rapidly downhill after about 92/93 or thereabouts. As for the other places:

The Lounge. It's still around, but I haven't been there for a while. From what I've been told, it's still going strong.

The Club. In Collingwood? I think it was dead and buried years ago. Remember seeing an awesome gig by the Clouds there though.

Cadillac Bar. Under a new name...not sure if it's still in operation though as I'm not in that part of town on the weekends.

Continental. Still going strong...same ownership as Mario's in Brunswick Street. Plenty of gigs....I've got my tickets for the Magnetic Fields for next month (dinner and show......never did like standing for a gig there). Oh, and the staff are as pretentious as ever. ;)

Dream (that place in Queensberry Street, Carlton that used to have all the indie nights). Dead and buried. In fact, the indie nights....or what's left of them...find it so hard to pull a crowd that they've been forced to use smaller venues.

Shinner

Last time I went to that place in Queensbury St I had some particularly bad weed - drank way too much, sat next to a bass amp and then spent most the night hiding under a table with the cold sweat paranoia feel... mind you that was probably over 12 years ago.

Club gone? That is terrible - used to be great for gigs downstairs - they'd usually play a Flying Burrito bros old record on the PA before and everything - I think I was at that CLouds gig BTW - they were fab for a while there. Plus the pool tables were great at 3am after going out.

Saw the Wreckery a few times - not a huge fan - about as good as the Swarm I reckon.

Good to hear about the Continential - LOVE the pretention of those waiters!!! Another great place to see Robert Forster play!!!

What about the Builders? And the Bakers?

Yep, sounds like you had the standard night at Dream ;)

The Builders Arms is still going strong, although I reckon the likes of Eastaugh36 and Frodo should probably not venture in there should they ever visit Melbourne ;)

As for the Bakers....the name sounds familiar, but I can't place it......

Went to Sahara last night (on Swanston Street) and it was very quiet there....
