Not sure if you are guys are aware but August 1st is the day that the trades for the GWS 17 year olds have to be completed on..I know...very weird for it being mid-year...

It is quite known that Freo is going great guns in signing Jaeger O'Meara...The Wiggles and Pies are also fighting hard in getting O'Meara also...

The 17 year old has to also agree to join the club they are being traded to. It is known that O'Meara has trained with us before and that he wants to remain in WA.

What do you guys think that Freo would offer up to secure the services of O'Meara? It would have to be of quality...

I think the mighty Clayton Hinkley should get it done now he's shown the world what he can do.

Seriously though, NFI. McPharlin, Hayden, Grover too old, Broughton, Duffield untouchable. Hill, Fyfe, Barow, Mundy, Suban, Balla, Mayne, DeBoer, Ibbo the kind of players that might get it done but who wants to lose any of them?
Maybe Clarke? We have Griff, Sandi & Moller on the way. Or maybe the relinquish rights to Moller scenario that's been suggested here.

Could be an interesting situation for mid season. Telling a player he's off to GWS next year. Would they then play out the year with us. Or would we tell them at all.

Shoes on the other foot now with players previously keeping it secret whether they are moving to GWS (or Gold Coast previously).

Im keen to get him. Judging on his first couple of games in the 18's carnival he has been on par with coniglio.

Players have to agree to trades

I would think by having this mini draft during the season it would decrease the picks values. If a team is gearing up for finals you're hardly going to trade out one or two of your players and expect them to play commited footy.

Nobody wants to lose any of them but Duffield, Mayne, Ibbotson and Suban are all very trade-able IMO. I'd hate to see them leave, but if the price is right...I'm not saying Jaeger is the right price either, I'm just saying there is a right price for everyone.

To put it in perspective, would you trade Duffield for Hill? What about Mayne for Morabito?

Palmer's the obvious option, could live with losing Ibbo. Furthest I'd go is Duffield but we probably can't afford to lose anybody in his age bracket.

Palmer's not contracted so it can't be him.

Very interesting date to do this.. Especially if the potential tradee is currently playing in our best 22 that weekend.. :o

BT en commentating our game on the weekend mentioned an interesting rendezvous they inadvertently came across in their hotel foyer that day when they saw Essendon officials talking with jaeger and/or his agent.

And the Bombers were also talking to Gaff from the Eagles.... seems like the place to be in that hotel lobby!

So, apart from Jaeger, who are the other players we could look at in the mini-draft? (Yarran?)

--
BTW - I only caught the last half of the U/18s game (WA v Tas) but I noticed the following guys did alright:
#2 - Tooks some good grabs on the HF line for his size.
#8 - Think this was Jaeger? Always seemed to be where the ball was.
#9 - Coniglio? Looks like an experienced WAFL player by they way he was directing other players.
#13 - Took some speccy marks in the goal square
#36 - Big tall guy, did well.
Plus a tallish guy in defence did alright (#20 something?)
(I had to remember jumper numbers as I didn't have a player list to go by.)

I'll try and dig up a player list and add them here later if I get a chance.

This is a huge decision for the club, and one that if done correctly may work out very postive for us.
The player/s whom we give up have to be good to very good players, and importantly one/s easily replaced.

say we offer Duff, we still have a dearth of his types to replace him - broughts suban ibbo tendai roger - even a few younger types in maybe Bucca/roberton/pitt.
We could offer 2 of the above and still have a fair amount of players to replace them.

Say we offer Mayne, we have 0 types to replace him - a medium sized forward with a strong mark and a crazy defensive side to his game. - maybe deboer (but no chance of trading him)

Or the ruck side - Offer Clarke - we still have Sandi and Griff and the younger Moller coming through.

The thing that interests me is getting an impressive core of players around the same age together to have a real crack at the cup.

My ideal scenario is that Palmer goes to GWS - we get compensated appropriately,- say end first - 2nd round pick.
We trade Ibbo and clarke to GWS for The Jaeger Bomb
We keep our first pick between 18 and 24 .
We use our first 2 picks (one from palmer)for the best KPF KPB available. We get one ripper mid and 2 KPP's

Our core group is around the 18 - 22 year old mark. We then have a solid plan for when the big 3 finish up - we have the younger moller & Griff filling sandi's role and 2 Key position players to MAYBE fill the massive shoes of Macca and Pav. I think we are a good chance of having a crack in the next 2 years. By doing all of the above does not affect it at all, more importantly we then have one of the best midfields going around for the next 8 years or so in Morra Fyfe Deboer Hill Jaeger Ballas Barlow Mundy Tendai Suban Pitt/Michie(maybe) ( What an insane mix of Pressure skill and determination and Power) and finally some KPP's to work with.

I really hope this happens, hell if anyone should be able to work with Sheeds, its Harvey. He - We should know what makes Sheeds tick.

It is also going to depend on what GWS have 'signed' already. If Clark from the Lions is off then they may not want our Clarke or may look at someone like Bellchambers.

A Johnno/Clarke/Crowly/Duffield/Palmer/Ibbo (some combo, not all of them!) trade would be on the cards.

Jaeger sounds like just what we need in the mids, but around trade week there appears to a number of quality WA lads (Clark, ? H Bennel, Rich etc) that may be got.

I recon that Freo is seen as a club that is willing to trade (we used to get bent over but have had the better of it recently) and I hope that we are going to be active again in this trade period.

Certainly going to be fascinating to see how all this plays itself out.Jaeger from what I've read is a faster version of Trent Cotchin.I hope freo don't get shafted here.

A faster version of Trent Cotchin!?

Not sure how we could get shafted unless we trade any of Barlow, Mundy, McPharlin, Sandi, Pav, Fyfe or Hill. Otherwise a faster version of Cotchin would be worth every penny.

To be honest I can't see us getting jeager.we don't have enough depth of A graders, to get the deal done.

The August thing is nonsense, I wouldn't be surprised to see no trades completed this year then the date pushed back to September/October next year.

The only way it'll work is if a bottom 4 side has a player they want to trade. One possible option is if Rich AND Clark are leaving Brisbane for GWS.

Or would we tell them at all.

A player has to agree to be traded.

That's what makes the O'Meara deal tough - we need to find a player with currency that the GWS are interested in that the club thinks we can cover in 2012 and beyond, who also wants to move to Sydney.

He said he saw Gaff from the Eagles, I didn't hear O'Meara's name mentioned.

Mayne's not tradeable IMO. He's just too important, and we have no-one that could even remotely replicate his role.
