There has been talk of letting GWS have Moller for O'Meara, but what kind of trade value does Thomas Head have?

Moller isn't contracted with us, so I'm not sure how he enters the discussion.

I guess if GWS are really keen on Moller we could do a shonky deal where we trade Johnson for O'Meara which is a clear win for us but then cut our ties to Moller dropping him in the lap of GWS.

do you know the rules on how moller is tied to us? I don't.

Moller actually IS contracted. His contract takes him up to the draft and allows Fremantle to drop him straight onto the list and be becomes a listed, contracted player.

If Moller tears up his contract he is barred from the draft, unless the AFL change the rules on scholarship players changing their minds at the last minute.

Tayl0r posted up this in one of the other threads. FAQ for the NSW scholarship program

Under the scholarship program your sponsor club has the explicit right to have first choice, once your son has met age eligibility requirements, to primary list or rookie list your son and, as such, if selected, your son would be required to go to the sponsor club, if he wished to play in the AFL competition.
It seems to me that Moller and Head are ours if we want them. We are also free to not pick these players and allow them to go into the national draft or to be picked up by the GWS under there zone selections.

EDIT: What he ^^^ said ... again :p

It's a scholarship contract, not an AFL contract. He's not an AFL listed player - he can't be factored in to the O'Meara negotiations.

It wouldn't be an official trade, it would be like the Veale deal. Freo aren't trading Moller, they just wouldn't draft him allowing him to be picked up by the GWS

Mayne's not tradeable IMO. He's just too important, and we have no-one that could even remotely replicate his role.

Mayne is one of my favourite players, but for the right price anyone is tradeable.

Like I said, would you trade Mayne for Morabito i.e a top 5 draft pick? I sure as hell would, and that is essentially what we're talking about with Jaeger.

Yeah, I just highly doubt the AFL constructed this scenario to allow for 'Veale deals'. I think they want ready made players to be traded to GWS, with players like O'Meara as the carrot to secure it.

I don't think there'll be anything exotic about these trades.

Agreed, but the idea of a "gun local boy" might influence things

Maybe, but I reckon they'll try to find another way to obtain him.

They'll be using the mini draft to get the best possible AFL ready recruits. That's why the AFL set up this scheme. It tilts the balance in the favour of the lower ranked clubs, because they can start looking at list management before season's end. That's where a Moller deal might come into it, but I'm not sure the AFL will look to kindly on 16 year olds being traded.

Technically if there was some sort of 'Veale Deal' whereby we reneged on the Moller development contract he could then sign on with GWS the following day under their zone concessions. This was always a possibility for him but as he was a scholarship kid he couldn't be poached by GWS through zoning concessions.

Do these players instantly swap?

If we traded "A. Docker" for O'Meara, would our former Docker play for GWS from August 2nd and could O'Meara play in the finals for Fremantle?

If we were lucky enough to grab him he wouldn't be playing with us till 2013

Either way I think a ruckman may have to be part of the deal.

Either Moller under the scenario discussed (packaged with a mature player to make deal legit) or Zac Clarke.

Either scenario doesn't substantially weaken us in the short term as we enter our premiership window.

As it stands Zac Clarke will not get as much opportunity as he wants as the third ruckman, at least not for a while. He isn't a midfielder despite his recent games.

Moller also won't realistically figure in our current premiership window.

Ruckman also always tend to attract a premium price.

Will be tragic if Zac goes as he has potential to be Dean Cox like.

There's no perfect scenario though. The best scenario though would be if there was some gun key position player we could get instead of another mid. However there's not a lot available, the best 17yo's seem to be mids.

On Part 2 - Definately not, O'Meara wouldn't be available for selection in season 2011.

On Part 1 - It would probably depend on the player and the club. If it's someone with a good work ethic that wouldn't disrupt the group they'd probably see the season out (which happens all the time in the NRL, Wayne Bennett has already announced that he'll be leaving St George and coaching Newcastle next season and a couple of players from his current club are switching with him and fans don't seem too concerned).

Are you sure? The bottom age guys were allowed to play for the Suns VFL side last year and I assume if O'Meara's listed by Fremantle that he'll be available for round 1 2012.

Yep, i'm pretty sure if we draft O'meara he will be old enough to play in 2012.i think he will be 18 when season proper starts in 2012.

Can't remember where I read/heard it but quite sure about this. He will turn 18 at the beginning of next year but he will be younger than all the other draftees. Happy to be corrected.

On the Moller thing, I'm really not too sure about what could possibly be trading a top of the line big man, for a top of the line small man.

If I had to choose between Moller and Clarke, I'd take Moller. With Sandilands and Griffin, plus assorted stand-ins, we can wait.

If I had to choose between Clarke and Jaeger (who I have never seen play, but assuming he is rated as a top 10 prospect at worst, possibly top 3), then I would take Jaeger.

Other players who may be attractive trades for GWS I would trade way before Clarke include MJ, Suban, Pitt, Duffield, Ibbo.

Agreed. I love the idea of jaegar, moller and head all playing their first game in round 01, 2013 (assuming that we can't play jaegar in 2012). And of course, we have to get him first!
