Adding Tim Ward, a pair of 70s and imo he'd have tonned up in second had there not been a pending declaration. Has a chance to further push his claims this week. He may be a specialist opener to date but is proving his versatility this series. Batted in the vital #3 first game, #4 this one.

One or two odd selections for the second match with Jimmy Peirson gone walkabout for some unknown reason replaced by 'ring in' Josh Philippe. Good to see CA has the West Aussie keeper/batsman in their future plans. I think this bloke is super talented but needs to be more attentive with his first 50 balls. Once in he can be dynamite. I'd have figured the balance of a leftie in our attack would have been the way to go, yet Spencer Johnson has been omitted? He was the one bowler that really troubled the Kiwis first innings last match imo with his unexpected pace and bounce.

Like who. Bancroft, Handscomb? Both have poor records on Pommie decks which should be a prime consideration if picking an Ashes side over there. Harris the only one of the three likelies has a fab Eng County record. As much as it pains me to say this given his poor Test record, I have him to open ahead of Warner.

Do you factor in that Harris has been playing in D2?
It did Labuschagne no harm to be fair.

Delighted to see Hardie ton up even if he can't bowl in this game.

white ball he is brilliant just cannot figure it out with the red ball...as I have said previously reckon leaving WA might be the best for him especially with Inglis coming back with the gloves....and if he stays at WA wouldn't mind to see him at three some shield games just to challenge him because atm its just not working

Put him ahead of Doggett. SA like to play Manenti at 7 sometimes so a lineup of Manenti, McAndrew, Agar, Johnson and Buckingham would trouble most states. Shame their batting is mush.

Touted for good reason I believe. He had been in poor form since BBL, picked in his first international and in unfamiliar conditions, then proceeded to peel off a pair of 70s, second ins most likely deprived of a century as they were going hard for a declaration. I dont believe in jinxes, got a good'n for that duck. See how he goes in second dig before writing him off.

As he plays mostly white ball does he and others have a problem differentiating between the two formats. Makes sense as most of his red ball dismissals are white ball driven in that he tries to get his innings off to a quick start. Can be tricky applying that policy with a harder red ball with both his dismissals in the current A match were impatient drives at wide balls within the first 10/15 balls..
Two shield seasons back he seemed to have the problem licked with a couple of excellent knocks. I said at the time that he had finally "found the patience" needed for red ball. The following season the patience had left him and he was back to his old habits.
Those who saw his big hundred in a Seconds match a month ago know Philippe still has a red ball future. He started at a steady pace but once in he set about taking the attack apart, both pace and spin. He was merciless even to good balls. Admittedly it was a good batting track, but take nothing away from the way he completely dismantled the opposition. His timing and placement was near perfect. His spin play most impressed me as it did last year in Sri Lanka, the way he used all the crease and when the ball was tossed up no risky slog sweeps, instead he sent the pill back over the bowler's head with precise footwork and quick hands.
When it full flow with a piece of willow in his hand Philippe is an excitement machine.

Really would like to see him give up the gloves and concentrate only on batting. With Inglis back this will give him more time to be just a batter

The PM XI (which is similar sort of make up to this side) batters their fair share of tourists.

The cricket schedule is too busy and there’s no money in it, but I’d be genuinely interested how a Div 2 of the WTC would go with the A sides of Aus, England and India included within it.
