Aussie and Sellar

Personally happy with the two.

We defintely need KPP depth with our inability to keep them
On the park for more than 10 games.

I am one of the Aussie fans. If he could just play a full season or two, I feel he would be a v good swingman.

Sellar, well, never know. Question marks on athleticism, but we have a good track record with improving fitness. Has talent and is big. Plenty worse 10th string KPFs around.

I also think it is very rare for a KPP to be dominant before the age of 25. Many do t really build up that excellent power or strength before then. The are clearly notable exceptions, but I think it holds true mostly.

Wayne Carey Junior struggles in the SANFL and is barely competitive, terrible slow plodding player, should have been delisted by the Crows 2 years ago.
As for Austin, he has had enough chances even taking into consideration his terrible run with injuries.

Actually there's a lot to lose by using the precious spare spots on our list unwisely i.e. Opportunity Cost. The whole idea is to unearth high-talent rough-diamonds over-looked by the non-Carlton teams (e.g. Jeff Garlett), and not just fill the spots with cloggers. Those days are well and truly over. The aim now is to make an awesome list even better. From what I've seen of Sellar, I'd say PASS. But our list managers have an outstanding record, and so I trust whatever decision they make. Would be surprised if Sellar is on the radar. We already have plenty of talls. Suspect we'll be focusing on small/medium talent this time.

:)

Who would you draft in the rookie draft where you're looking at the dregs?

You have to pick someone.

Cachia, Twomey and Dare didn't cost us anything.

Probably have a point there.

Just hope it's a player, Sellar or someone, that shows something that potentially might take him the next step although understanding too it is a rookie draft, not the main draft.

Our rookie drafting has been pretty good. None of us have complaints there.

A couple of years back I would have been all over Sellars, as I remember what he was like as a junior. Now, I am not so enthusiastic. He is neither fish nor fowl, and hasn't the tank to make the impression he needs to.
I guess giving him an invite isn't that bad, as it does promise him nothing but a reasonable chance.

Austin I have mixed feelings about, but I can honestly say his form as a forward in the VFL finals was some of his best football. If he can keep up that sort of stuff, and make that sort of impact in the seniors, then he has a chance.
I think he's had his chance in defence and been found wanting. He doesn't have the bodywork for defence. Maybe he needs it a little less at the other end?

If there is truth in Austin being re rookied then in my opinion it would only be to safe guard against Jamison getting injured again.
There are not too many on our list capable of playing FB. Although Austin has played both forward and back during his interrupted career so far his value could be at FB. Maybe he's not a Jamo but when Jamo goes down for long periods we suffer.
So, in emergency; break glass and let Aussie have a go at it.

Why bother? I like Austin but he played one game this year, was unexceptional and dropped the next week. If the coach didn't show him any faith this year, what would change the next?

As for insurance against Jamison breaking down, isn't that why we're keeping Bower?

The future is Watson.

Think we have the defensive tall situation covered. Jamo and Hendo are first choice and were excellent this season, with Laidler doing the 3rd tall thing. We have Bower and Watson as backup, and McCarthy developing away in the background. Thornton can play back if needed as well. There's plenty of depth and future prospects on our list already.

:)

Aussie should be kept on as a forward prospect. Needs to not seem like such a deer in the headlights at the top level.

Patrick Keane's tweets suggests that we haven't asked anyone to train with Carlton.

Though they're still in Abu Dhabi.

Richmond cut Morton, yet they're looking at Addam Maric.

Guess they need two spuds with that last name.
Ivan is no spud and is a good get for the Tigers.

Stupid Crows, stockpiling so many talls + recruiting Jacobs = lack of opportunities.

Ivan is very average. I personally am still surprised the Tigers went after him and recruited him. Talent wise he really isn't much of an upgrade on what they already had at their disposal.

However, what big Ivan does have, and he has it in spades, is determination. He's a very limited footballer but one thing you can be sure of is him giving his absolute all each and every time he takes the field.

Good luck to him. I actually have a bit of a soft spot for him (fantasy footy related purposes) and hope he does well at his new club, and I'm sure he'll be given every opportunity to do so. However the reality is that there is not much to him - he's very limited in ability. Having said that he is now the Tigers number 1 ruckman and should play just about every game in season 2012.

As for the Crows, I'd hardly call what they have done stupid. They know Ivan is just average and they went and recruited a far superior ruckman in Sauce. Maric is a fair way behind Sauce as a ruckman and so he would have been given limited opportunities in 2012 and beyond as a Crow. Maric would have been reasonable to keep as backup but he wanted to leave so they sort of had to grant his wish. Well played by the Crows - didn't give away much for Jacobs (although upon reflection I'm happy to pick up the players we did with the picks we received in the exchange), got an excellent young ruckman, shipped off a serviceable backup ruck that is far from irreplaceable for a pick with which they may be able to pick up a reasonably talented junior. Smart move IMO.

Agree about Austin.

Was soft sentiment as part of Gibbs deal. Like Gary's brother.

Would rather Austin gone now and let Gibbs grow up with no distrations/excuses.

Gibbs still looks/plays like a talented boy. Not taking enough responsiblity for a numbr 1 pick. Hope 2012 is the year he shows his number 1 pick was the right spot for him.

Seems harsh but we are talking a number 1 pick here. If we got him with pick 10-15, then he is spot on for that type of player on form shown to date.[/QUOTE]

You cant be serious? flog

Agree re Maric. A terrible terrible footballer, and what's worse Hardwick coughed up a 2nd round pick for him, while completely missing the opportunity to get Mitch Clark who would have been absolutely perfect for Richmond. Disastrous list management.

:)

I actually think he is serious, that is the scary part.

I hope Sellar turns out better than the last "highly rated" delistee we got from Adelaide.

Darren Pfeiffer

You mean Curnow... :D His form this year showed everyone how good he can be. Sellar would be a great pick up. He should of played a lot more this year. Still young and highly promising.

Some good points there Jerimias. My Crows stupid comment was more about their (Rendell's) obsession over the past couple of years in recruiting talls/KPP and neglecting the area where they currently have major deficiencies, ie. in the midfield. Probably one of the reasons they finished 11th and 14th in last 2 years was their inability to cover massive midfield losses with the departure of McCleod, Goodwin et al.
