We have a really weak team nowadays and Smythe doesnt make it any better when he leaves out our best players. With Gaze, Bradtke, Vlahov and Heal all retiring from international competition it leaves us very vunerable.

But to add to that Smythe (the idiot behind it all) chooses a shocker of a team. This is the team that will contest the Goodwill Games.

Boomers squad: Axel Dench, Daniel Egan, Ben Knight, Brett Maher, Darryl McDonald, Scott McGregor, Ben Melmeth, Derek Moore, Mark Nash, Matt Nielsen, Paul Rogers, Glen Saville.

What the?????

Who the hell are Nash, Dench and Moore??? Why in gods name is Ricky Grace and James Harvey not playing and please tell me why they think Egan, Saville and McGregor are even good enough???
Is Anstey injured, please tell me that is the only reason he isnt playing. I thought with Jason Smith injured it would be a certainty for Harvey to start at SG with Grace (the best point guard in the country) at Point?? But both arent even in the squad.

The quicker Smythe goes the better off we'll be.

Jod, there you go again picking on Phil Smyth. What has the guy ever done to you?, for you to hate him so much. He hasn't been National coach for very long so give the guy a chance before you start bagging him.

The reason why i hate Phil Smyth is because of his rejection to play against Magic. What a ****ing loser. Thats why i hate him. He is a prick and most ppl in basketball know it.

Yeah Jod, I think the team that has been selected is not a scratch on our (potentially) best side, some big names left out - especially on the offensive end (aka Grace and Harvey).

The only explanation for this, is that Smyth has put together a very Defensive unit. Egan, Moore, Rogers and Saville to a lesser extent are all shot blockers, D-Mac's inclusion over Grace would revolve around Grace being exposed in the post on the defensive end. In the past we had to "out score" other nations to win and we had the firepower for this - Gaze, Heal, Vlahov, Bradtke, etc..

Agreed, some of the new guys are terrific defensive players but what happens if we need 10 points in a hurry? A specialist defensive player can't give us that (this is why Gaze and Heal were so important) J. Harvey can.

The current combination will either make Smyth look like an absolute genius or leave him with egg on his face........

Ahh good Carb im glad you respect the Magic Man. If i had the opportunity to play Magic Johnson i would be humbled and honoured. I would not reject it like that little loser.

Well i agree Sherm if we get in a fix we are not going to be able to score a quickfire 10 points. Isnt that the point of defence and offence, to have a good spread of both. I would drop Maher and run Grace and D Mac and also bring in Harvey for Egan or Saville. I think the team would look a lot stronger for it. We also miss Anstey and Smith.
