Australia Day? No Pride Here -

Had to stop myself yelling at all the bogans leaving the tennis last night in Melbourne wearing the flag as a cape, wrapping themselves up in a symbol of racial genocide and occupation

I can understand the issue some Aborigines have with Australia Day but bagging people for celebrating Australia is pretty shit. The flag is culturally acceptable in Australia unlike a swastika and many have no connection to the atrocities that previously occurred.

40 degrees PFT air-con and DVD's it is :thumbsu:

Mostly agree with you though

Won't be doing a thing. Might walk down to the beach if it gets too hot though. But then I face the inevitable throng of bogans that will be down there.

New plan, I'll be at the pub for aussie themed karaoke the night before Australia day. Then I'll probably be turning up to work drunk the next day on aussie day.

I was going to have a BBQ and have been going off the idea as I don't have time to organise. Anyway I sent a text to someone who wanted to bring some people, asking her if she's still coming and she sent me a text back saying that she's "about to send the piker message to nicky (me) and that she's excited about her new plans"

Obviously that was meant for someone else so i said "i take that as a no"

Anyway she rang back half hour later with an excuse that it was about something completely different rah rah rah - She was flustered and i could tell she felt bad so i went along with it. Then she kept trying to make plans for us to do something on Australia day. I found myself saying over 5 different times through the conversation "how about you make plans with your friends and i'll see what mine are doing and "hopefully" we can combine our plans."

I know she's going to call me again tomorrow so i'm just going to say the truth that I know what that text was about and I don't really feel like hanging out with her on australia day.

I know everyone has their own way of handling situations when they fk up and I'm far from perfect but she could have been an adult and admitted that she stuffed up and apologised. Instead of forcing me to witness her theatrical bullshit.

Her friends are annoying anyway and i was doing the bbq for her as she's just moved back here after being away for 4 years. Infact, she asked me to do one. I'd rather do a low key thing with my friends who don't act like teenagers.

Apparently a university study recently found that people who wear clothing showing the Australian flag are more likely to be racist...

What's next, will I need a degree to prove that the sky is blue?

This - -

On a serious note; I am not one for patriotic ejaculations so I couldn't give a shit about 'White Australia Day' at all - But if we really wanted to have a national day that was inclusive of all of our citizens, why would we choose a date that has so many obvious bad connotations for the indigenous people in the country?

If we wanted a legitimate national day, it should be Jan 1st - That was when we become the federation of Australia - Before that this place was a bunch of white, British colonies who, in all honesty, were brutal ****s who decimated the indigenous population and who refused to allow Asian immigrants into the country

*(yeah, white australia last a lot longer past 1901, but you get my point) -
boooooooring!

So being a proud, patriotic Aussie and is proud of it is being racist now? We can't fly our own flag in our own country because it's racist?

WTF have we come to?

They didn't say that. They said that people that wave the flag are more likely to be racist and considering what I have seen some of my ex facebook friends say, the study is in some cases proving itself to be correct.

Post racist crap or abuse other posters and you will be carded.

On a train from Rome to Florence.

I (sort of) remember doing that. Smashed down about a litre of wine while playing animal snap with 5 uni buddies. Got chased through the streets by some gang of knife wielding local marios. Couldn't find anywhere affordable to stay so slept in the train station. Good times.

This year will be round at my mate's for the annual Spot the Aussie BBQ.
