whats everyone getting upto for aussie day? ill be at a mates listening to the hottest 100 with the cricket on mute, beers and bbq are to be had too.

Last 5-6 years it's been this, pretty much.

This year I'll be driving down to Busso, got a house there for a week so hopefully we get down there just in time for the last session of the Aussie day test and end the day with beers on the beach while the sun sets, ****ing love it :thumbsu:

synth based clean guitar effects? Deep emotional meaningful lyrics trying to have an impact on the listener? U2 and kings of leon wannabes?

Aussie music ain't what it used to be.

I believe his point was that the Hottest 100 isn't strictly Aussie bands. I'm kinda forced to sit through it every year, I never listen to the radio so I have literally no idea what any of the songs are, and the suspense of the top 10 countdown is wasted on me.

"Hey riteo, can you believe X band isn't number 1, what a joke!"

"Yeah man it's outrageous! Who are they again?" :o

It's not just Australian bands. The connection to Australia Day at this point is pretty much just tradition.

Doing a bit of gardening in the morning with the Hottest 100 on. Then heading into Fremantle to catch up with family and friends. Maybe take a picnic but more likely buy fish and chips from Cicerellos, drink some cold beers and wine and then watch the fireworks.

Work is closed on Friday with everybody taking the day as annual leave so can have a few drinks and not need to rush home.

celebrate what, exactly?

Australia Day? No Pride Here -

Had to stop myself yelling at all the bogans leaving the tennis last night in Melbourne wearing the flag as a cape, wrapping themselves up in a symbol of racial genocide and occupation

wow

bit of a lisa simpson do gooder over here. Better not have any fun because its racist.

Its one of the best days of the year. All my friends get together for a big party (shock horror, there is aboriginal friends there too! - turns out we celebrate the mateship side of things). This year its at a friends house, with pool, huge patio, spa, hottest 100 and later that night a dj is playing.

I'll be at work

sigh

Gonna be 40 degrees here in Perth, so the likelihood of me getting out of the pool for any reason other than getting a beer/bbq are slim to none.

prob have a BBQ for tea if l can get more than one jet working damm thing.

re aussie music there still are some good aussie acts around really depends what your into.cog, karnivool, children collide, sugar army etc.

Australia got a rep for hard rock and pub rock style thanks to the scene in the 60's/70's like AC/DC, The Angels, Rose Tattoo, Chisel, and even the more "pop" bands still had a bit of a rock edge to them like Dragon, Skyhooks, and Sherbet.

Times change and I get that, but listening to the hottest 100 as well as having a bbq, a beer, some backyard cricket and even maybe a dip in the pool, its like, which one sticks out as not the most time honoured aussie thing to do? Especially with so much non aussie input.

Meh, whine over. Someone get me a VB/Bundy

Those days in the 70's would of been great to be a pub goer checking out those acts.

Collecting my Australia Day honours.
