Why would anyone take a flag to the BDO any rate? To show their support for the Australian bands? Will these people boo the international bands? Why would you take a flag? Maybe it is your intention to be provocative?
I'm not a huge patriot or a big fan of jingoistic flag waving, but I think it is a joke that you can't wave your country's flag at an event within your own country!![]()
The better approach would have been to issue an Australian flag to everyone turning up and reduce its potential effect of being used by any gangs.
Their not syaing you can't do it, but bring the flag for the right reasons.
Protection of Australian Flags (Desecration of the Flag) Bill 2003

Is actually illegal regardless if it is your property or not, why don't you try doing it in a public place and find out for yourself.
Are other countries flags going to be confiscated as well if people of non Australian decent turn up with them?
If not, they are racist pricks.
Hasn't it been banned?
They're not confiscating anything!
Oh wait.. we need to rage against something that isn't actually happening.
"They're stealing our freedoms!"
Maybe he should check his English usage and said "I am asking people not to bring flags".No hasn't been banned just dicouraged by the bdo promoters, media is hyping it up as being banned.
It's disappointing that a well-meaning initiative is going to have the exact opposite effect due to morons in the media. It could have been better thought through by the organisers though.
sigh i need to get glasses ..I read the title of this thread and thought .."my god ..Molly Meldrum has been banned from attending the BDO !! "![]()
OK, who gives a ********? People drape this thing over themselves and run it up their flagpoles as if it actually means something.
It's a former British Navy flag with white stars.
It is so non-distinctive and so steeped in nothing in paticular that I can't believe intelligent people get ra-ra about it. I can understand the rednecks of Cronulla and West Sydney (who drove to Cronulla) getting ra-ra about it - they're morons.
Australia is a beautiful part of the world and not because of some 2nd-hand piece of cloth. Men and women fought and died for the people of this country - not for some 2nd-hand peice of cloth.
Here's what the Bulltein Magazine had to say about the flag in 1901 around the flag's inception and I believe this still holds very true today:
People need to stop being so precious about the ********ing flag and start being precious about what really makes this place great.
