Money talks.
And not only local money. You are talking about billion dollar American companies that have long viewed, an acted, upon Australia as an easy target for overcharging.
Nothing will change no matter the color of the Government.

That is the Problem with Capitalism as who has Money has the Power and Shits on everyone who has NOT got money
 
The same reason I dont trust them with this is the same reason I asked for my MyHealthRecord to be removed.

You cannot trust them to limit access in practical terms to only the extreme reasons that are trotted out the justify such moves. Surveilance and breach of privacy becomes routine once possible, and politically expedient.

If you doubt it, see what happened here, and the fact not one thing happened to the minister responsible, or to stop it happening in future.

You can't really Trust the Internet as a Whole Really to stay Private as anything on it is Hackable so in a way nothing is 100% Safe/Private.

You can't trust anyone on the internet to keep Info you give them Private.

Of Course nothing Happens as the people in Government are just Clueless and do what there Donator and Bribers tell them they want to happen
 
This is good news for all Law abiding citizens.
If you have nothing to hide, then this law should hold no dangers for you.
The reality of the 21st century is that technology has outstripped law enforcement, and these apps are a big part of the problem.
Apps are used to plan terrorist attacks, this is a proven fact.
Law enforcement, the same people we are happy to blame when an attack does occur, are hamstrung by not being able to see what these people are planning. This has the potential to bring this issue back into balance.

I’ll admit, I opted out asap when I heard you would be opted in without being asked.
The original Labour plan for this was an opt in system.
Things changed.
I was a supporter back in the day of opt in. And trust me, the last 5 years I would have welcomed an easy way for my doctors/nurses/specialists/surgeons to have immediate access to my history without me having to repeat it over and over.
But the myhealthrecord system that has now been setup fills me with dread. And I tell everyone of my concerns.
The system is highly hackable. It’s based on a system that saw the Singapore Prime Minister have his record published on the net.
Yet we still have believers......

So you find people Finding out Everything to About and Get all your Info Easily so they can hack into your accounts very easily.

Yes they should be able to Police to get Info on you but worry other people can use this for Bad Reasons and Abuse Them

I went to opt out and found they had already created one for me without asking, they can sort of suspend it but thats about it.

Once upon a time government for me was at worst a sort of annoyance, but even when it consisted of people I thought were tossers, they just seemed incompetent, not downright malevolent, but not any more. There are people now in positions of power who would probably do things to me, or people I care about, if they could. Most days its just a victory to be upright and sucking in oxygen for me, PTSD is killing me and I'm just tired of fighting to keep going. And I dont want any of that any where that people who would wish me harm could reach. Ever.

I don’t think that unlimited access to every persons private issues is a good thing.
But I understand that this legislation requires court orders for the authorities to access your encrypted communications.
I’m more than comfortable with that.
And I’m not sure why you have an issue with it Dave.
I can’t see you as being a person of interest for the authorities. Unless I’m seriously mistaken.
Dave, they are not going to come for you if your messaging some bimbo for sex/internet sex.
Or an Uber.
They don’t give a rats about yours, or mine, perversions.
They will however be interested if you have facebooked/messaged/instagram hate messaging.
I’m more than comfortable with this legislation, despite my sometimes out of the norm views (like my acceptance of a child being killed by a bear that was deleted from this forum).

Mate, we are all a bit paranoid.
Human nature.
99% of the Australian population have thing to worry about this legislation.
And that remaining 1%? I doubt there is even 1/10th of those who need to worry.
But that 1/10th have the ability to affect 1/10th of the population by their actions.
The Charlie Ebdo attack in France killed 19 people. In a population of 50 million.
But a devastation for those killed and their extended families.
Would the new legislation have prevented this?
Maybe, maybe not.
But should we nobble our authorities because of our fear of our “private” conversations being seen by a select few reviewers?
For the good of the majority, no, we shouldn’t be concerned.
The aim of this legislation is to make you and me feel safe when walking in the Bourke Street Mall.

As long it stays just for going After Terrorists and other Very Bad People then I see your Point.

Though could other people who are not in the Position to get Access to this stuff could find a way to do harm on the Internet with this?

Fortunately, or unfortunately, you have to rely on the courts to make that decision.
Thanks to Labour.

They will use sophisticated algorithms to find those keywords that identify possible terrorist attacks.
And no doubt there will be times they investigate people who are later found to be innocent.
But we must, simply must, give the law enforcement organisations the chance to stop these plans before they reach fruition.
In this case, the axiom that “the greater good” applies.
We need to protect the 99+% over the very small percentage that would do us harm.

Well most people I talk to about this is said they be Worried about Downloading the Odd Thing they Shouldn't;) and can be caught with this.

Though that be nothing more then a Waste of the use as you say there are lot bigger Fish to Fry
