does anyone agree with me that the Australian Indie Rock scene is going through a great period??

it seems like everyday that I come across another aussie band that I really dig almost straight away.

some of the bands that have popped up over the last couple of years to just recently are very very impressive even if they don't seem to get much radio play (not that that really matters or anything).

just a sample:

expatriate
red riders
the cops
architecture in helsinki
british india
faker
wolf and cub
vasco era
trial kennedy
gyroscope
cog
the exploders
damn arms
horsell common

and the best thing is that you can see these bands for like $25 at small intimate venues.

thoughts?

The Cops - Call Me Anytime is a pretty popular song at the moment. I heard Black & White Radio by British India on some snowboarding show as well - good to see a bit of exposure for these indie groups.

Gyroscope are signed to Festival Mushroom - not indie. Although they have negotiated a deal that essentially gives them all control anyway

Some greats bands in that list though - doubt they are all indie though

Cog = best Aussie band of the 2000s.
Followed very closely by Karnivool and Sydonia. Add these 2 to your list...

Wolf and Cub are one of the best bands this country has produced in a long time. And its also good to see British India getting some good wraps. Both are awesome bands to see live

Some others that i love
because of ghosts - very oddball, instrumental stuff. nice, melodic arrangements
Fourth Floor Collapse. strongest songwriting band around. last album was killer.
Damn Arms. very cool sounds

i'd have to agree.
we have some great indie bands around at the moment.
i hate when i hear kids writing off our music scene and that there isn't anyone decent around.
but they just need to get out more
get to some local shows
over the last few years i have seen some amazing acts

indeed

I could listen to Sun on repeat all day

books...is a stellar album. from start to finish it was a very polished effort.
i am surprised they havent been picked up by a bigger label. Tracks like Surround Sound, Drink til you Drown, Occupation, and Ashes leave most radio "indie" bands for dead.
Much better songwriters than Snow Patrol, Evermore and Eskimo.
