Fastest flip flop in reporting history? 9.30 in

Simmons: I’m wearing a Dick Bavetta jersey as I write these next 19 words: I’ve never done a faster 180, in my entire career, than the one I pulled off with Dante Exum. Not only did Jalen and I crush the Exum pickin our preview, but when you and I worked on the first draft of this piece, here’s what I wrote: “For me, the Exum subplot is 100 times more fascinating than anything Philly is offering. He might be superduperduper raw, and on top of that, three lottery picks taken right after him (Marcus Smart, Julius Randle and my Rookie Of The Year Choice To Be Revealed A Little Bit Later) could be kicking ass right away. That has a chance to be one of this century’s legendarily bad lottery picks.”

I nearly gave myself a concussion leaping on the hood of the Exum bandwagon as it started pulling away. Did you see him in the preseason? It looked like Kobe cloned the teenage version of himself and added an Australian accent. I’m all in! Easily my fastest flip-flop ever — and that’s saying something.

Watched Exum against the Lakers. Did some good things and did some bad things.

I think to have a good career he's going to have to be a point guard, I can't really imagine him playing the 2, he seems so much more natural at the point. He's gotta tighten his handle and improve his shooting. He's certainly not going to disgrace himself but he will be a victim of comparisons with the other lottery picks.

I like watching him though, he's kind of unique, so should be interesting.

Not that Bill Simmons has ever been one for hyperbole or knee jerk reactions. LOL.

But that "fan view" has always been his shtick.

Utah also don't seem that bad to me. At least on paper :p
Yeah I think they're pretty decent, Hayward, Burke, Burks, Kanter, Favours is an underrated starting 5, all of them should improve this year and then Gobert is a bit of x factor. Not much bench depth though.

Motum has only played in one preseason game for the Jazz but has survived a round of cuts that reduced Utah's roster down to the mandatory 15 players.
It is still not a sure thing for the product of Washington State, as his contract is non-guaranteed, although he's in a good position to start the regular season on the Jazz bench. That being said, he'll be firmly planted on that bench and will rarely, if at all, see any action on the court.

Just on Dante, while he has seemed good at times, it really gets to me how he always looks puffed out even 2 minutes into the game. I assume that is just his style but it is a bit annoying. I like to see lots of energy on the floor but often he seems to just be wandering around out there looking a little disinterested, which I'm sure he isn't but it just looks that way. In addition while he sometimes plays amazing defense like when he stopped Kobe on the drive, he also just walks around at times and doesn't go hard at defensive rebounds when sometimes I think if he just boxed out his man and jumped hard toward the ball he could stop some offensive boards by the other team. Lastly, while he can make some beautiful passes, he also has a tendency to make quite a few soft slow passes that are easy to pick off, particularly at the top of the key when he first comes down the court. I worry that in the regular season those weak ass passes are going to just get eaten up by opposing defenses and result in more turnovers.

In terms of energy I wish that he had energy like Delly or Patty Mills combined with his length and skills it would be awesome. It is a little bit annoying because surely that is not that hard to do, just bring some more energy to your game rather than sort of wafting around the court at both ends with the occasional burst of energy just to wet our appetites for more. I suppose this might come with more maturity and as he gets a bigger tank.

I still love the guy but you know I just wish that he would get the best out of himself which can happen if he brings a little more effort to add to the obvious talent.

I hope that Coach Snyder is emphasising this to him that he needs to lift his intensity on both ends of the court if he wants to make it in the NBA.

If he hasn't been cut yet, Jingles will today. My info was bad and his decision making was derp. He'd want to hope there's another team that wants him or he might be locking horns with Childress. Apologies to the OP for my earlier derail. :$

Heard some whispers he will end up with the 76ers and Brett Brown.

Don't know how true that is but we can only hope.

I think he's still pretty young to cast too much criticism on yet. I'll give him a season to see where he's at. But you're right in that he does seem to have a ways to go.
Obviously 'Team Exum' played it brilliantly getting drafted where he did. Having acknowledged that looking at him you can't help but feel he would have benefited incredibly playing a couple of years of college ball. But then who knows where he would have landed.
Remembering Patty and Delly when they were first coming into college obviously both had differing skills. One thing can be said for both is that you could see that they could both shoot the ball. Patty to me was always going to be money from midrange in the pros. His tremendous improvement in his three point shot really surprised me and spoke volumes about his commitment and of course the San Antonio ballclub.
Exum from my viewing point seems to be behind Patty and Delly at a similar age in terms of basketball iq or just knowing where to fit into a system. Form my initial perspective of him (ie his junior exploits with the national team) I felt he would have at a minimum slotted into any team and been able to distribute the ball effectively and play some defense. Let's see if he can grow into it. Time is on his side.
