So we should stop giving out ABSTUDY & AUSTUDY money to any student who commits minor infractions then ?, what about those studying artistic fields who do also commit minor crimes ? (they are also representing us as well). Jesus this board has become a haven for flogs and miserable arseholes, the guy will probably get a fine, pay for the damage, say his mea culpa in front of the press and then be on the next flight out of Heathrow (which considering the minor nature of the incident is a just punishment).

This has only got attention this has recieved so far because the team's hasn't lived up to expectations, and the media loves nothing more than headkicking (take what happened to Leisel Jones as a case in point), because its like crack for people like yourself who love to get high with a sense of smugness and self satisfaction.

I know you're likely to compare me to the "leave britney alone" guy, but remember this, Dawn Fraser once stole an olympic flag in Tokyo after finishing her events in 1964. if that happend now you're reaction would be exactly the same, begone to the Age website where you can be with your own kind, one of latte quaffers and smug inner surburbanites.

Does Booth deserve to be sent on the next flight home ? YES.

Does he need to front up to the shop owner (and the rowing team) and apologize for what he did ? YES.

Should he front the media afterwards ?, YES (And do it without a written statement, because that just screams of someone not being truly sorry, I hate it when footballers do it, and the same should apply here).

Should he pay for the damages ?, ABSOLUTELY.

Don't think for a second that I think this guy doesn't deserve to hauled over the coals over this (especially when the Olympic Regatta has barely begun), but I hate the fact that an incident like gives gives smug greens voters and chardonnay sippers ammunition to bleat about why they should get nothing for wanting to compete in the Olympics whilst ignoring the fact that we fund people via the means of AUSTUDY to learn useless University degrees that have little value in the real world (Women's Studies), or fund Australian Movies made by pretentious snobs who went to film school (on our dime), that only appeal to other pretentious snobs who went to film school.

You can't complain about one without ignoring the other.
