Aussie rules regional nature questions

From my brief readings outside of the AFL side of the Barassi line Nauru is the only country with Aussie rules as the main sport/football code.

I have further read that Aussie rules had a presence in South Africa as well as Victorian rule books being sent to North America and Britain.

Are there any reasons or explanations why Aussie rules is not the main code of much of NSW/Qld?

Any reason why Melanesia is not a region where Aussie rules has a significant presence such that it is essentially the football code of choice especially since RL does not have one outside of PNG?

What attitudes are there amongst Aussie rules fans with regards to this regional nature to the sport?

Simples.
Rugby ran the northern states elite, and all through the school system.
Cricket banned or blocked the use of grounds, media helped it. Not like today where sports unite to get stadiums built. The exact opposite back then.
When League came about, because Union refused to have injury pay (oops there), League blew up with the best Union stars jumping ship.

Victoria was a part of NSW till 1851 when it became a seperate colony.
About 5 minutes after been declared a colony, they discovered the biggest gold fields on the planet in Ballarat and Bendigo. All that wealth went mostly to Melbourne and Sydney missed out and has been anti Vic ever since.
