Aussies Aussie Watch - RIO 2016

The Games are finally upon us!

Australia has sent 420 athletes to Rio (214 women and 206 men) in what is the 5th largest Australian Olympic team behind Sydney (632), Athens (482), Beijing (435) and Atlanta (424).

We are represented at these Olympics in all but two sports - fencing & handball.

For a comprehensive list of our athletes at these Olympic Games, click on the following link:

There are now plenty of discussion threads on this board - let's try and use this thread for Australian progress and results only.

If you want to see how some of our athletes came to compete at the Rio Games, have a look through our "Aussie Watch - Towards Rio" thread which can be found here:

Bit hard when the women's team didn't qualify for the first.time since 1988and neither did the men and under the rules only 1 female placed high enough to qualify for the artistic section. There is only 1 female rhythmic competitor and one male in the trampoline.

Good Brazilian name that Kumahara... did Japan trade her for a footballer? Poor Aussie girl doesnt stand a chance.

I just googled, born in Brazil. I stand corrected. Unless this is Brazil's attempt at being China and starting a breeding factory for table tennis players.
