Today's Update. (Paddle your Boat Saturday)

AOC predicted medals. These were done 12 months ago and may be out of date to the actual chances.

Currently 8/11/10 (29). 8th
Predicted 13/14/10 (September 2015)

Italic means they are completing. underline are new sections.
GOLD:
(5 short of what was predicted)
We had an unexpected gold in the greatest modern warrior test called pentathlon.

SILVER:
Jared Tallent (Athletics, 50km walk), SILVER!!!!!! Probably not fully fit but become our most successful T&F athlete.
Caroline Buchanan (Cycling, women’s BMX), (2nd in TT) s Crashed in the semi.

BRONZE:
(All done)
AOC got 1 prediction right. bronze to the 3M diving girls. just picked the wrong team members
one prediction got gold(Tom, Sailing)
2 got silver(Mens TP, 4x100 girl medley),
5 others all didnt medal. (Cycling, team sprint-4th just), Opals-quarters, men’s 4x200m freestyle relay(4th, just....), Cate Campbell(5th and fading fast) Jessica Ashwood(7th)
we currently have 9 Bronze.
ABC Outsiders, or not mentioned:
Men's K4 1000m, probably looking for a bronze. top 2 teams(Czech + Germans) finished the heats by 2 seconds behind the best 2.
Boomers,(bronze medal game.... so sad)
Sam Willoughby (BMX) Semis. 3 wins) was the red dog in the final, with dead the number 2. and then we didnt medal........

Todays medal chances.
K4- 11pm
thats it today. minor chance in the triathlon, less in the mountain biking. the 4x400m girls are in the final but will need 5 teams to drop its bundle. still good effort by them.

Nothing from the K4-1000 guys. Looks like we'll be relying on a miracle in the triathlon or mountain biking.

EDIT: No miracles in the triathlon. Just a shameful 6th.

Some of you people need to look back to years such as 1976 and 1980 where we won bugger all.
That was pre AIS days we put a lot of funding into this (Olympics) results are terrible ingrained near enough is good enough attitude .Needs to start at grass roots level school sports days every kid doen't need to get a prize only the winners .

This made me laugh.

I used to like my 4th ribbons at school

I didn't know it at the time, but I was being Australia'd

Is worth a read.

In particular, Coates – who is also a vice-president of the International Olympic Committee and chair of the coordination commission for the Tokyo Games – is concerned the team could slide even further down the medal tally in four years time and that Winning Edge has caused the sports to neglect long-term planning.

"What worries me is that there have been demands on the sports to perform or lose funding has meant the large part of their funding has been directed towards Rio. I don't think there's sufficient attention being paid to the next group of athletes coming through."

Son, when you participate in sporting events, it's not whether you win or lose: it's how drunk you get

We bought in Kitty Chiller to deal with the drunk behaviour and even a woman who hates drunks like her has made bo difference. Made things worse if anything.

So what were the "locks" we missed out on re: golds?

100m/50m freestyle women?
100m freestyle men?

it was really the swimming that messed up hitting the target?

Aus won that event. It was just a different guy than expected.

- Jessica Fox (should have won based on her year performances)
- womens Waterpolo, may not have won but to be eliminated when they did was a shocker.
- Cate 'Choker' Campbell and her sister!
- BMX (especially the men), I love Caroline Buchannon but even at her best she was not beating the Columbian girl.
- Jarrod Tallent (albeit I feel fitness played a part here, missing a bit of training due to injury hurt)

Emily Seebohm & Mitch Larkin are both current world champions in the 100/200 backstroke and both failed to win gold. Seebohm in particular would be disappointed in her Rio results.

Seebohm is a noted under performer at big events and Larkin didn't really fire a shot. Disappointing but didn't have either down as a lock.

Okay, here we go. I will try and do most 10 ten finishes/times they made the final round or got a final placing. Some i may miss(like rowing), when there weren't much more than 10 competitors and they missed the final 8.
