To be fair Kokkinakis probably just needs more match play so I might be being to harsh.

He has the talent but some of his language in the last 12 months concerns me. He trains hard but sense he might be a bit scared of failure when it comes to match play so is playing it a bit safe.

I watched Kokkinakis' match against Medvedev and was a bit alarmed about what the commentators were saying. I may have misunderstood but I thought they were implying his fitness issues where actually partly mental, in that he has no confidence in his body. Understandable in a way given the injuries but hopefully it's just a temporary thing (of it is indeed a thing at all).

The Aussies had a disappointing open overall. Many of the matches that they lost were winnable and I think TA would be disappointed as well.

Was thinking the same thing. Usually one of the journeymen make it to at least round three, none of them got past round two and disappointing to see Thompson and Kokkinakis lose in round 1. Jury is out for Kyrgios for me, the bar is higher for him, expect him to win a few more matches yet.

Women's also disappointing. Dasha should have gone further and none of the other girls made it past round 1 except Rogowska who played another Aussie. Barty going OK of course.

Kokkinakis is injured again

INJURY CURSE STRIKES AUSSIE

Leo Schlink

THANASI Kokkinakis' injury curse has struck again, ruling the talented South Australian out of next week's Davis Cup tie with Germany in Brisbane.

Kokkinakis tore a pectoral muscle during first-round Australian Open defeat to Russian Daniil Medvedev.

"I haven't picked up a racquet since so it's pretty conclusive I'm out," Kokkinakis said.

"I'm not sure what the timeline is on when I can play again, but I don't want to risk rushing it.

"It's frustrating."

Kokkinakis, 21, has been haunted by injury throughout his young career and his unavailability robs Australian captain Lleyton Hewitt of a possible Cup option.

Hewitt is tomorrow expected to name a squad up of to six players - Nick Kyrgios, Matt Ebden, Jordan Thompson, John Millman, John Peers and Alex De Minaur.

I knew something was up with Kokkinakis. Good to see Alex De Minaur in the squad, would indicate his abdominal strain is on the mend (if the article is to be believed of course, although Leo Schlink is usually on the money).

Thanasi has had pec problems before so bit of a worry.

Thanasi is simply one of those athletes whose career is ruined by injury. It's very unfortunate as he has potential to be top 30,but his body won't allow it. Feel very sorry for the kid and impressed that he kept fighting and stayed on court against Medvedev, despite being injured.

Ebden left out of the Davis Cup team but travelling as a hitting partner. Seems strange, he probably offers the same as Millman but in better form.

The team is Kyrgios, De Minaur, Thompson, Peers and Millman are in the team.
I'd say ebden is in much better form than Thompson at the moment! I'm surprised.

It is strange. I think Ebden is probably a bit better than Millman and in good form as well. He's also a good doubles player. I assume Thompson will be used in the doubles. Maybe with it being in Brisbane it will bring out the best in Millman. (And from a sentimental POV I'm glad Millman is in the team as he will love playing Davis Cup in front of his home town crowd). Having said all that, I assume if De Minaur is fit Millman will miss out anyway.

Any idea when Dylan Alcott plays today?

Is the Alcott match definitely available through the app? Boys match hadn't come up yet.. And they seem like they are playing the great Ocean road race for the rest of the afternoon.

If 7 doesn't show it you should be able to stream it on the AO's website. You can watch the boys' final there now.
