Shoaib Akhtar has gone berzerk!! 94/7 doesn look good with a lead of just 287...

Martyn is still there but still if they can get around 350 it will be beyond Pakistan with Warne running hot :(

No surprise Mark Waugh was cleaned up by an inswinging full delivery, he had been lucky to not be cleaned up by Akhtar early on in the first innings.

M. Waugh has always been vulnerable early on in his innings, more so now when he's well past his best.

Shoiab was unbelievable. The thing was nearly every ball was right on the spot. Something that is not always associated with him.

Is Akhtar getting "reverse swing"? those bloody pakistanis are very good at it with a semi new ball.

I wonder if Lee can do the same:(

Possibly one of the best spells of pure fast bowling I've seen since Gillespie cleaned up Lara and co at the MCG a couple of years back.

Some of those deliveries were unplayable.

If they lose this questions will be asked - lots of questions.

if you ask me Steve Waugh is in far worse form than Mark.

Great to see a fast bowler who is just allowed to bowl as quick as he can. Every now and then he is gonna win a test match for his country. Wish they would let Brett Lee just bowl as quick as he can, instead of this line and length crap.

so brett lee should just abandon line and length on the chance that every now and then he'll win a test for his country, as opposed to bowling line and length and winning 90% of tests for his country?

i can assure you that the pakistanis would be delighted if lee's plan was to bowl fast and erratically, they have to make 300 odd runs

Lee just has to go for broke & rattle a few stumps...perhaps try a few in swinging yorkers with a mix of good length.

I don't think the ball is going to bounce that much so in the blockhole should be the strategy & try'n get that dreaded "reverse swing"

:(

Just gotta love people with short memories. When Brett Lee made his debut, he bowled quick and took a heap of wickets. Opposition batsman were playing and missing, getting hit, and getting their stumps knocked over. He was getting 5 wickets a test at an average of twenty.

Since he has been told to concentrate on line and length, he is taking less wickets for more runs. Line and length is great for Pidgeon and Dizzy because they are tall and get extra bounce. Lee isn't that tall, gets less bounce and is going for plenty. I can't remember the last time he took a bag. Maybe the last time we were in New Zealand.

Australia can afford to have a " loose cannon" like Aktar. Warney, Dizzy and Pidgeon all bowl a tight line. Let him bowl quick. Whats it gonna hurt. Australia can't carry him much longer. Not with Shane Watson and Nathan Hauritz waiting in the wings.

If I remember correctly, Lee's earlier bowling action put a lot of stress on his back (I think his lower back), and threatened to shorten his career. He has since cleaned it up, and in the process traded off a bit of speed for accuracy.

He's talked a lot lately about becoming a more consistent bowler, but I'd say it's preserving his body that is more important to him.

We'll just have to be patient with him.
