Well let's say all the rookie offensive and defensive players, QBs included, have a s**t year Dickson winning it would be possible but he'd have to smash some all-time punting records and be like almost twice as good statistically as the rest of the league. Hypothetically say 70 yard average, 60 net, 40 inside 20s, 20 inside 10s. But the rest of the O and D rookies would have to really suck, get injured, etc.

Hayne did it as a publicity stunt and it backfired once the regular season hit.
Mailata is probably going to get cut, may end up on the PS.

So what? It's a difficult sport to pick up and both blokes actually made a fist of it in real positions. Mailata has time on his side being young, so he just might make it. He's done well so far and has a great attitude. You blokes down south seems so negative on these blokes...

I think it’s because Hayne was s**t and Sydney media got off on building him up to be something he wasn’t.

On the other hand an Aussie bloke from down south was picked in NFL’s team of the decade.

We’re cheering for Mailata fwiw.

We want all Australian's to succeed. But the Sydney media were atrocious in their reporting of Hayne, especially when there were other Aussie's already over in the NFL they just concentrated on Hayne. Didn't help that Hayne seemed more interested in pressing his own brand.

Mailata is in a tough spot. Obviously he has the size to compete, but he's coming from so far back. Which can be beneficial as he won't have any bad habits but on the flip side he doesn't have any good habits.

The Sydney media were over the top. But that shouldn't diminish the fact that Hayne made a good go of it for a 27yo guy making the switch to a very physical and technical sport, particularly at RB.

Forgive me for not being too enthusiastic about a punter, even if he made team of the decade... American football is so specialised. . Punters are basically bottom of the pile in the pecking order.

We'll see what happens with Mailata. I think he's done well so far, certainly exceeding expectations for a bloke who hasn't played American football. Poly boys do have a much higher success rate than the general population in making it in both League and NFL. So despite his lack of experience, he's got genetics and time on his side. He's also got a great attitude to learning

I saw the negative comments come almost immediately for Mailata as they did for Hayne. Both did much better than the naysayers expected. I can't help but think that it wasn't the Sydney media that irks aussie rules types, but prejudice against NSW and league.

His time is coming. He’s learning the game and currently behind a future hall of famer in Peters, so it’s not surprising that he hasn’t contributed yet.

But Peters is starting to break down physically, and Mailata was on the active roster last week for the first time (big sign that he’s gaining confidence of the the coaching staff).

Folks here in Philly are really excited about this kid. At least one well respected analyst believes he is a future all pro (Brian Baldinger).

On the less serious side, there have been some rumors that the Eagles have installed some trick plays that utilize his exceptional combination of power and speed.
 
Dustin Fletcher’s 19 yo son Mason gives up AFL to sign with ProKick and try his luck in the US. Always thought his old man could have been a big success over there. Mason has similar big boot.

At least the punters last more than 1 season. The Aussie punters are the best in the game. The Aussie positional players atm are useless atm.
No doubt I hope that changes though.
 
Former St Kilda forward Arryn Siposs was at his home in Auburn, Alabama when his phone rang.

Siposs says he is glad he picked up.
“A voice said ‘Hi, it’s Bob Quinn, general manager of the Detroit Lions’,” Siposs said.

“The call completely came out of the blue. I was like, ‘OK, that’s pretty cool’.

“We had a good conversation. He wanted to say hello and tell me what they wanted to do and their situation.”

The Lions are not the only NFL team showing interest in the 27-year-old punter in the lead-up to this week’s NFL Draft.

The Atlanta Falcons have also kept in regular touch with Siposs.

The New York Jets
in the market for a punter after not re-signing their Australian punter Lachlan Edwards, also gave Siposs a call.

Siposs played 28 games for the Saints from 2011 to 2014, spending time in the VFL for Williamstown before moving to Alabama to punt for Auburn.

After two seasons with Auburn, one of American college football’s elite programs, Siposs entered the draft and is considered one of the top punting prospects.

The fact he is an Australian is keeping Siposs confident.
 
FORMER St Kilda forward Arryn Siposs is on the verge of becoming the fifth ex-AFL player to realise his NFL dream, signing as an undrafted free agent to the Detroit Lions on Sunday morning.

Siposs was overlooked throughout the three-day NFL Draft, with only two punters selected in the entire seven rounds, but was among the first players to sign with a team as an undrafted free agent in the aftermath.
