Just thinking about it, and I think we should take him with pick 72 or PSD #10. He is just what we need -

• Above 190cm (193cm)
• Key Defender,
• U18 All-Australian Full-Back 2005,
• Quick

I can't think of any reasons not to pick him up other them he is a little skinny, but that is easily fixed.

Regardless of his height, he is a 3rd tall defender, and we have OODLES of those.

James Clement, Nick Maxwell, Harry O'Brien, John Anthony, Alan Toovey and Shannon Cox would all be ahead of him in the depth chart, and considering that he can't kick, and Essendon have a crap defense but delisted him after one year anyway, I'd suggest that he's not worth the punt.

The only things we dont need are small forwards and key defenders. We can look at replacing Presti, Clem and Wakes at next years draft but theres no urgency this year.

How do you figure there's no urgency? Wakes will be retired next year, and his replacement won't be ready to play if he's just been drafted.

Meanwhile, Presti probably only has two years left, and when he retires, his replacement has to be ready to play on guys like Jonathan Brown, so I don't think you'd want a 2nd year draftee doing that.

I think a key defender is our MOST urgent need. I mean, midfielders develop much quicker, often ready 1st or 2nd year, while a key defender is probably not going to be ready until 3rd year.

Because I have a lot of faith in Maxwell, Anthony, O"Brien, etc to cover the position until such time as a geniune taller replacement comes along. And theres no reason to think Presti and Clement havent got 3-4 years left in them.

These days, Wakelin is left out every other week for "team balance " reasons, so replacing him can hardly be urgent considering he's often not in out starting 22.

Anthony is the only pure tall you've named...

Maxwell that plays as our third tall defender who can also play on smalls, and O'Brien that plays across the half back line. In my opinion, we need another key backman to hold down centre half-back after Wakes has called it a day.

I must have my numbers crossed, but I thought he was precisely 193cm.

He plays taller than Maxwell, was playing key position this season. Maybe his Dad can spare a thought or two.

We can quite easily draft another tall defender next week , who will most likely be a better player than Lucy.
It also must be said that Cox, Anthony,Toovey and O'Brien , play tall for their sizes.

If your good enough you can be a key defender at 185 (see Leo Barry). The jury is out on Maxwell but he has the ability to play on CHFs. I know its a preseason game but we put Maxwell on Riewoldt and he beat him.

I'd take Joel Perry from North in a heartbeat before lucy. Not only because he has a girls name...
Nah, Perry looks like a pretty quality young tall defender, i think that the Roos head honchos need a good long hard look at themselves hey. I say we take him instead of all of the other psd "talent".
