Had no problems with Bower's game even when on Bradshaw. He contested every time and was just outmatched for strength. From what I have seen so far Bower looks like a 10 year player in the making. Have seen only limited game time from Austin but so far he has shown very little.

Bower always plays on the flanker. Every time Austin in given a go he's throw on to a key forward. I would like to see Austin tried on a flank.

Even SOS wasn't played at full back on the big key forwards when he first came into the senior side. I just recon Austin should be tried on the flank on someone he can handle and exploit rather than someone who is the opposition's main target. I hear he can really get the footy and he's got good skills.

Truthfully I thought Bower wasn't physical enough, wouldn't put his body on the line (even Houlahan was) and his skills were terrible. It all depends if he deserves another chance to get it right or to find touch in the VFL. Can't afford to fumble with the likes of Lovett, Davey, Winderlich etc zipping around Essendon's forwad line. He's also got to stop getting caught behind his opponent.

IMHO wouldn't be suprised if Bower drops out for Grigg.

Austin is probably at the stage Bower was at the end of 07 and start of 08. Just lacking in self confidence and not impressing dramatically at Senior level.

The difference now compared to the end of 07 was that there is now more competition for spots, and subsequently harder for a lesser experienced player to break into the side. (Although 4 debutants in round 1 might suggest otherwise, I still think our players now need to really work harder to break into the side, like the guys did to earn a round 1 spot)

So given that, I'll be patient with Austin and back him to make a few bigger steps down the track.

Well we'll see, Bower needs to improve on recent form because he hasn't been up to our new set standards, maby had the flu or something like that. He's a good player I'm confident he will overcome this form slump and get back his skills and confidence.

remember Bower was hurt bad last year and was on a limited program weights wise as far as I understand. Both will be important. Carlos is an experiment but Bower and Austin are no brainers!
