Would like to think it will be this year sometime but I don't see it happening unless we cop injuries in defence and he swims instead of sinks. Some glimpses at the end of this year and a full tilt in 2010.

I'd like to think that Aussie could settle into the backline over the next couple of seasons, and really make one of those spots his own. I realise that Waite has played his most consistent footy in the backline, however, I suspect he may be moved back into the forward line at some stage.

I terms of our talls forwards, guys like Cloke and Kreuzer could help down there, as they are both very capable of kicking 25+ goals a year.

I voted @ rnd 12. His efforts with the Bullies last year were very good and if that continues he will demand a game in the 1's by mid year.

My biggest question is who will he replace ???

Bower? Jamison? Thornton? Waite?

Even if Waite goes forward, who comes out? Cloke, Fisher? Kreuzer?

He may have to wait for an injury !!

Its nice to have some depth isn't it !!! :D
This is how I see our team to play the Tigers in the first game (barring anymore injuries)
Browne Jamison O'hAlpin
Thornton Bower Greig
Waite Betts Walker
Gibbs Hartlett Simpson??
Cloke Fevola Yarran
Kruezer, Judd, Murphy
Hampson, Robinson, Fisher, Carrazzo

While Aussie has slways been huge in the thighs he seems to be one that struggles to gain upper body bulk quickly, and I think this is one of the things that will slow down his progression to senior football.

I went to the Hyundai Christmas Party and sat next to Ian Coutts and apparently Setanta has never been fitter or healthier than he is at the moment. The club has big wraps for him to hold down CHB.

I've said it before and I will say it again.... I think Austin is better suited to a forward role and could be our answer to CHF :thumbsu:

Was there any other highlights, news or comments from Ian Coutts BG?

I was overseas for the second half on the 2008 season, so can people give me an indication of when Austin played some good games ? I cant remember him doing anything special in the games i watched up until about Rd 14 ...

He really has done nothing at all yet at senior level and is yet to have not looked out of his depth.

Rnd 1 is highly unrealistic......not saying the kid dosnt have the ability, just has to first earn a spot and then actually start playing well when he cracks a game

Agree, but I saw enough to keep me interested for the next couple of years.

I saw a few Bullants games last season , and he was struggling most of the time .Terrible at fullback , and beaten a lot across halfback .
When he was promoted to the firsts , he didn't do much to inspire confidance .
He would have to improve a lot to figure in our 2009 plans .

On the plus side , he is still very young , and should improve a lot this season , so I think 2010 is more realistic .

If he can't show some positive signs by then , I don't see a future for him at Carlton .

Maybe a chance at half forward wouldn't do any harm .

I haven't heard that many pre season reports so im not sure on the progress his making but please tell me he has added some size. If not 2010 will be his chance. I do think he can play but his body didnt seem ready in 2008 and without a massive summer in the gym I dont think it will be ready for 2009 either.

That doesn't mean I dont think he will play this year because circumstances change (injuries, suspension, form). Good performances when chosen is what he will need to break into our best 22 of 2009
