i think austin is the key for use to move forward if he can hold down chb we can then use waite any were he is needed and the team looks stronger over all. imo austin should be ready to step up this year and he showed signs last that he will be a good player for us. i just want to know if and when you think this will happen?

i think approx mid season is when we will see more of Austin....he got his taste of AFL last season and should give him the motivation to get a spot in the 22.

unfortunately at the moment for him, there are back half players considered to be higher in the pecking order and i would assume he will get a spot when players such as below list get injured.

Jamison
Waite
Bower
Thornton
Setanta

Tend to disagree somewhat P as i think Austin's only direct competition is Setanta. Blokes like T-Bird and Bower are bettter 3rd options and i've no doubt the MC are just gagging for Aussie to step up to the CHB plate as it releases Waite forward as well.

Btw, while i'm expecting him to continue to develop this year, i'm not expecting him to really step up until next year. :thumbsu:

Here's hoping he'll improve as much as Bower did in 2008. He's capable of it. He looks very good in the VFL, but gets a bit lost with AFL pace. He'll come good.

Reckon Waite will be eventually shifted forward as the year goes on.

There's question marks over Setanta. His passion is amazing, but whether he can recapture the form of 07 and improve upon his game in 09 is yet to be seen.

Reckon Austin could very well crack a few games this year, and really push himself into contention along with Bower, Jamo and T-Bird in the back half.

haven't seen much of the guy but must say it's pleasing to see that the debate has moved from "will he" to "when will he", looks like he's no longer considered by most to be just someone we drafted to keep Bryce company:thumbsu:

Well, now you're just being immodest!

Great to see you've overcome that embarrassed hue Thy. Was the red revolked or merely a 24 hr jab?

I went to the Hyundai Christmas Party and sat next to Ian Coutts and apparently Setanta has never been fitter or healthier than he is at the moment. The club has big wraps for him to hold down CHB.

I've said it before and I will say it again.... I think Austin is better suited to a forward role and could be our answer to CHF :thumbsu:

I think Aussie still needs another 12 months of development in him with the Bullants. Came to us a bottom aged draft pick, so he was never going to play senior footy early on in his career. Our talls, you would think, seem pretty settled in the back half, and I would imagine both Cloke and Kreuzer would spend some more time in the forward line this year.

I was suprised in the change of body shape of Austin, particularly the size of his thighs. He actually looks shorter because he has filled out. As I mentioned in a previous thread, IMO i dont think he is quite ready, however they certainly are putting the work into him at the moment and who knows he may not be able to handle Fev at the moment but could certainly handle the pretenders from other clubs.

If you've said it before and just said it again...well...are we going to hear again and again ? :D

I voted @ rnd 12. His efforts with the Bullies last year were very good and if that continues he will demand a game in the 1's by mid year.

My biggest question is who will he replace ???

Bower? Jamison? Thornton? Waite?

Even if Waite goes forward, who comes out? Cloke, Fisher? Kreuzer?

He may have to wait for an injury !!

Its nice to have some depth isn't it !!! :D

his only played a handful of games... i assume 09 will be a massive learning curve for the kid... 2010 he will step into our backline and should be a walk in starter
