The test squad for India is set to be announced very soon. The first test starts on the 9th of feb. What is everyones prediction for the squad to tour India? My squad is below

Cummins (c)
Smith (vc)
Warner
Khawaja
Labuschagne
Head
Green
Carey
Starc
Halzewood
Lyon

Agar
Inglis
Renshaw
Murphy
Handscomb

Dont think they need more than the 3 pacemen. I still think murphy will tour even though agar seems to be the preferred option

Yep, like this a lot.

With Green and Starc looking unlikely due to injury however, I think Boland will replace Starc. Hard to replace a guy like Green, do you bring in an extra bowler or a batter as I don't think there are any further test-ready all-rounders (perhaps Hardie?).

Such a shame Glenn Maxwell broke his leg as he would be pretty handy at 6 in spinning conditions.

The first XI may look something like:

1. Warner
2. Khawaja
3. Labuschagne
4. Smith
5. Head
6. Handscomb
7. Carey (wk)
8. Agar
9. Cummins
10. Lyon
11. Boland/Hazlewood

I would rather play boland in the shield and tell him to prepare for England

Just to be a campaigner, let's go the other way

Rohit (c)
Shubman
Pujara
Virat
Shreyas
Saha (+)
Jadeja
R Ashwin
Shami
Siraj
Bumrah

Mayank
Vihari
Axar
KL (+)
Shardul

What I want:
Would like to see Shubman play in the number three spot from here on in. He is our future #3 bat
Seeing Rishabh is out, KS Bharat and W Saha are aging, bring in either Sanju or Ishan as keeper. and have one of them as permanent back up to Rishabh

I hope no Agar Kunheman is the option
not really provides just the same as agar

Plus agar better bat and field

I think the criticism is a bit over the top...you have to support the players to a degree you cant just play them one off test and then F**k them off....it will be a never ending merry go round

SLO go well in India....give agar a test and if he F**ks up yeah I agree then F88k him off

our premier offie only took 2 poles in 55 overs ...yeah agar looked average this test you need to show some support

IMO agar should never of played this test and swepo who I believe was harshly treated by the selectors and played on the roads of pakistan should of been given a go in aussie conditions

there are no other teams worthy
I think Agar may have failed the audition. Might be Swepson and Murphy for India
It more likely he failed audition to be higher in pecking order of an actual match but he probably still in squad.
But I doubt he will be picked in front of someone like Swepson in a Test there if you want a second spinner.

Agar is a white ball not red ball bowler.

1 Khawaja
2 Warner
3 Labuschagne
4 Smith
5 Head
6 Green
7 Carey
8 Cummins
9 Starc
10 Lyon
11 Swepson

12 Hazelwood
13 Murphy
14 Inglis
15 Renshaw

Should be looking to rotate bowlers to keep them fresh.

swepo won't go to india...leggies get murdered over there

it will be finger spinners

India have had plenty of wrist spinners over the years.

We can't just take all off spinners & Agar is not an option for tests as is a containing bowler.

Will Gill play over KL?

Any chance they go with Axar alongside Ashwin and Jadeja? Axar has performed well when given the opportunity

If Agar is our 2nd best spinner we are better off playing 3 quicks + Lyon (& Green). Agar outbowled by Head and Marnus today.

We need to start looking towards the future. I think India are similar to Geelong at the moment, retirement home vibes.
If we were to play KL over Shubman, KL could potentially keep wicket meaning we could play Axar as well.
Alternatively, Shubman opens, play KL at 4 and move Shreyas to 5.

Right now I’d lean towards not playing two spinners, even if Green is fit. We’ve won once in India in about 50 years and that was won by 3 quality quicks and one specialist spinner (admittedly Warne). It was the quicks that did most of the damage.

Sharing the workload between the 3 quicks and Green would allow shorter spells. Lyon will bowl plenty and our 3 part timers are all handy enough, and if they are turning sideways all are capable of doing real damage. I don’t see any need to force another spinner in if they’re not up to it.

rishabh is a big out as he has destroyed australia on a couple of occasions. balancing all their spinning all rounders is such a good problem to have in india.

That series was also setup by a dominant middle order i just cant see us getting on top of the spinners the way martyn katich and clarke did, everybody will argue over spin combo and bowlers but no matter what bowlers do i just dont see us having batting to put up match winning totals in india.

What i would pick.

1. Warner
2. Ussie
3. Labu
4. Smith
5. Head
6. Green (subject to fitness)
7. Carey wk
8. Cummins
9. Starc (subject to fitness)
10. Lyon
11. Hazelwood

12. Boland
13. Neser
14. Handscomb/Renshaw
15.

Dont take 2 spinners as all the options are s**t. Our pace bowlers are test standard.
The other question is do we take inglis as 2nd keeper although handscomb could be the backup keeper.
Id potentially take an allrounder as the 15th player if green doesnt come up-not sure who as agar is a spud and i suspect hardie is not ready. I would have picked maxwell (bat 6/7 and bowl some overs) as cover for green if he had have been fit.

Australia v India news: Ashton Agar guaranteed selection despite SCG struggles

Ashton Agar’s wicketless Test poses a huge question for Australia heading into a tour of India – but the bowling all-rounder has been guaranteed a ticket to the spin bowling centre of the world.

“I’m sure Ash will be there. Left-arm orthodox, he’ll absolutely be there,” Cummins said.

“It wasn’t an audition at all. This wicket was a lot different to India. It wasn’t really spinning out of the middle of the wicket (like it might in India).

“We thought the wicket was going to spin more than it did.

“I thought he did really well.”

I'm assuming this won't be on FTA, i.e. a Foxtel only scenario?

So looks like I'll re-up Kayo on Feb 9

Which means Netflix and Disney+ get the arse at the same-ish time.
