At this point because of the lack of support in Victoria, its sad to say that the decision is easy.
Victoria can only look forward to 6 or 7 matches:thumbsdown:
Melbourne will get either the opening game or a quarter and semi
Geelong has totally lost its chance,as much as I've tried to rally support, its been sabotaged at every attempt,so too bad for them.Hardly any more time for them to plea their case
People down here will only realise when we actually get to host, and then they will jump up and down-not my fault
So which stadia mof the 12 get cut, Checker? I was always thinking it was from among Townsville, Gold Coast, Newcastle and the Sydney Blacktown stadium- probably one from the first two (Townsville, because that is a it of a hike- you could have a team based in Brisbane/Gold Coast quite easily and take your pick- maybe Newcasle, as Blacktown wuld be a closer commute for a Canberra based team. You woulod then have pairs of stadia reasonably close- the exce[tion being Adelaide and Perth, naturally,,,,

Would cut down on FIFA whining about big distances to travel for teams, especially if you could base teams that way- dunno if that is possible from a logistical point of view.

Geelong and Gold Coast are gone mate.I've tried to be as impartial about things as long as possible but with such a lack of support from the AFL (and a dozen characters in here)then those two stadiums will suffer
The 3 stadiums in Sydney will be no problems because Doha are proposing 10 of the 12 from Qatar
Thats my opinion anyway and its based on copious amounts of research.

Terrible shame

Assuming we get the nod (a massive "if" as I think, at this point, it all depends solely on the back-alley "deals" made between the various bid teams and the FIFA Executive), why you wouldn't want to host the World Cup Final at the MCG is beyond me.

No other stadium in Australia has such sporting pedigree or the international renown as the G. Not to mention that it can fit 100,000+.

Truly one of the world's great stadiums.

You're truly deluded
I made the post in good faith
Brumby and Demetriou effectively killed that dream for Victorians a long time ago.
Its no good all of you here saying we don't want the World Cup here ,but if by chance we fluke it we MUST have the WC final.
Its only rated at 82,000 for the WC

The only chance Melbourne would have is if 200,000 Victorians signed up to the bid site in this last few weeks-and we all know that won't happen
For all the folks that read this forum and I've only been fighting a dozen people tops yet the fight is never ending. It will truly be to the detriment of Victoria as New South Wales and Queensland get all the infrastructure and construction jobs in fast rail, airport upgrades, rail links, road works, hospital upgrades, hotels, urban beautification, telecommunications, hospitality, branding, tourism and its legacy.Add to that the lions share of training facilities, live sites etc
How dumb that a few small minded people would even try to deprive the nation of $31.5 billion outside sport. All that will happen,if we are honoured with hosting the World Cup,is that Victoria will almost certainly be totally sidelined
There is a reason why Barkly St gave up on this constant trolling a month ago,the rest of you should be ashamed

Well, two of them have to go from the list anyway...while Gold coast and Geelong are probably the most likely as multi sport stadia, it is a shame- mind you, a plus for FIFA is that Townsville and Newcastle are both rectangular, correct?

a shame about Melbourne, but it is looking a Sydney-centric cup, when you add in the relative proximity of Newcastle and Canberra to Sydney- that is five satdia for FIFA use. the Victorians will whinge, but if that is ow it shakes out, too bad.

I'm truly interested.

What do you define as the 'lack of support in Victoria'??

1-Victoria provides the MCG,

2-Skilled Stadium (Brumby's suggestion),

3-and what other state has built a $267 million dedicated rectangular stadium in recent times?

What more support could you hope for??

Was it more that the NSW-centric FFA deliberately put in outrageous demands of their own so as to isolate the AFL and Victoria??

Lowy could quite easily run with MCG and AAMI park.

Don't go pushing this back on others.

btw - rally support.......are you on the payroll?? How would anything on Bigfooty impact??

If the NSW soccer family struggles to muster a national 300,000 registrations of support with no financial commitment - don't blame the Vics!!!

Correct mate.
The final 10 stadiums will then be
6 rectangular,2 hinged tier rectangular,1 temporary rectangular and 1 oval
NSW will get at least 27 matches while we only get 6,maybe 7
I'd actually advocate the MCG for an opening match,3 other group matches,a quarter and then hand over the stadium to the AFL,and basically shuts the doors on Victoria for the rest of the World Cup
Semi's in Perth and Brisvegas and the final at the Olympic Stadium in Sydney
