Based on what? Last time Nadal beat Zverev on a hard court was 2017 and Zverev has improved tremendously since then.

In my opinion, Zverev will smack Nadal and may cause some trouble for Medvedev.

Based on the fact Zverev doesn’t win big games, Nadal in 3 or 4.

Super Tottenham....from the Lane.
Fair enough, theres obviously issues behind the scenes and thats been clear for some time. Have to remember these people are not robots, they are people.

But I'm not going to say who you should or shouldn't like.

Look I agree to a point. But every professional tennis player knows what their obligations are in terms of post match media. If you can’t attend the post match then you really shouldn’t be at the tournament.

She’s clearly got issues and that is sad. Call me a cynic but I think Osaka plays the system to her benefit a bit though.

She had a lot of doubters in early 2021, because she missed the entire season and didn't defend her French Open. And I was one of them. And rightly so, Osaka just won the US and Aus in dominant fashion playing top-quality tennis.

She shut most of us up when she won Miami, Stuttgart, final in Madrid and the cherry was Wimbledon. Not many question her now number 1 status now.

People still question her ability to completely drift out of matches. See Muchova last year here as the prime example. That loss came from nowhere and happened so suddenly. Other examples were Riske in 2019 at Wimbledon, Anisimova at the French Semi(she was down a break in the last, after being 5-0 in the first IIRC).
It's a fair criticism, but not one that weakens her claim to #1 imo. In general consistency appears harder to attain in the women's game and this criticism can be levelled at most players bar a handful of extraordinary exceptions at various stages of their careers. She's a legit #1 any way you slice it, even if you don't think she's necessarily the best player in the world if that makes sense.

yeah, she is a deserving number 1.

I just think people expectations of a number 1 is inflated due to the big 4 and Serena. Would love to see some stats on winning %'s as a number 1. i might look for one

She won grand slams by being the complete opposite.

She just doesn't play anymore, money rolls in regardless so lost her edge.

I dunno mate, there is something about her that rubs me the wrong way.

I see she is inconsolable in the changerooms now. This sort of stuff does my nut. She lost a tennis match, she needs to get over herself.
So according to bigfooty, she both doesn't care enough and cares too much.

Makes sense.

Barry’s matches are generally boring form the point of view that points are won on an error from her opponent rather than a Barty winner. I was flipping between the two matches tonight and stuck with MCA. But Barty gives you lots of different shots. She doesn’t try to hit as hard as others and plays the angles and lines.

The womens game is basically one speed. Hit hard. Barty changes it up and her opponents struggle with it

Nadal beating Zverev or Medvedev would be a stretch I feel but I'm 100% on board for 21.

He’ll smack Zverev but Mededev is going to be tough

Anisimova's Dad died after she made the semi at the French and she stacked the weight on. She is actually pretty fit compared to the last couple of years.

All the experts say what a fantastic player Ash is - strokes, slice, serve, strategy. But folks on the interweb say she is boring and isn't a real #1 yawn

Ha ha ! Who is then ? Clowns have not got a clue. Women's tennis is criminal with its inconsistency. Barty is the most consistent of all current women players. She is World number 1 clearly.

Can you just stop please.
Use the report button please.
Cleaned up.

Anymore of the stupid sexualised and misogynistic comments tomorrow and there will be infractions and thread bans for the rest of the tournament.
Grow up ffs people, you know who you are.
