it was 05 just before the ashes, hamish marshall played that great knock in the first test and kiwis really should have won that game but gilly and katich saved us.

We have actually only played 5 test matches in nz in the last 14 years.

The Channel 9 commentary weer mentioning during the Brisbane Test that Mitchell Starc insisted on playing in the domestic one day comp instead of resting. Does this mean a player can refuse to rest if they want to play domestic cricket? I thought the ACB could dictate to state teams not to play certain players, but it seems the player themselves can ignore this edict if they wish (which of course they should be able to).

CA have full control. They probably wanted Starc to have a rest, but didn't feel too strongly about it either way. If they did he would not have played.
