I prefer playing all the countries, rather than just England, India, South Africa over and over. While obviously it would be better to start with West Indies and finish with New Zealand, that's the way it goes.

Agreed. All Test nations should play each other. If that meant a summer with Zimbabwe and Bangladesh, so be it. For now though, they could probably be in a return of the winter series in the top end.

I know I am in the minority but would love a summer of Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. Still haven't forgotten the last tri-series that Zimbabwe were involved. Very close matches

Same for next year when the bigger drawcard South Africa play 4 Tests prior to Pakistan getting Boxing Day/ New Years. I'm pretty sure if South Africa and New Zealand didn't have their own summer of cricket they would be the teams scheduled for Boxing Day.

If we don't play West Indies on Boxing Day, then it's either Bangladesh or Zimbabwe. Every other team is booked for December/January. England tour South Africa, India tour Pakistan and Sri Lanka tour New Zealand.

Yep CA administration seem to be living in the past in a time warp in the 80's where the West Indies were still a major drawcard. New Zealand have just about the best side they have had ever so it's ridiculous they are not on the big stage.

People seem a bit ignorant of the fact that we're just one cricketing country. We don't get to just decide our home schedule and expect everyone else to adhere to it.

I believe New Zealand don't play here in late December-early January for the same reason South Africa don't: They want to host their own Boxing Day and New Years matches.

Cricket Australia know West Indies aren't a crowd puller.

I'm glad someone gets it.

Would be some of the worst cricket in this country and by mid-January the worst crowds we've seen in a long time.

NZ(administrators) wanted to play this years Boxing Day test but for whatever reason were not included. Whilst it's good to a different opponent, it's pretty obvious to all concerned the Windies won't offer much unfortunately. I'm tipping the Big Bash to go gangbusters this summer...

The Kiwis are desperate for another chance to appear on the showpiece occasion but with the soon-to-be-announced Future Tours Program from 2015 to 2023 all but finalised they are set to be overlooked again.

"I think every New Zealand cricketer dreams of playing in the Boxing Day Test match," New Zealand Cricket chief executive David White told Fairfax Media on Tuesday.

"We haven't played in it for many, many years and I'm not sure that's going to happen in the near future - it's not going to happen this year. But it's something that we're pushing and something that our cricketers would dream of playing."

Probably, but those nations need Test cricket. And the game is more important than the crowd numbers. We have no game if the other nations fade out of the game (as the West Indies, Zimbabwe and maybe at Test level Sri Lanka are looking like doing). In the unlikely event that CA has to make a small loss one year out of every few in order to keep the game afloat, that's not too high a price.

Thankyou, I have no idea why people are saying on this thread that New Zealand didn't want to play on Boxing Day when the freaking CEO of New Zealand cricket wants to play in it.

Because despite of the fact that New Zealand would love to play in it - they're scheduled to host Pakistan during December and January anyway

And that can't really be moved ahead because Pakistan have other commitments in November and February and in February we tour New Zealand anyway

Plus New Zealand are scheduled to host

Bangladesh in December/January 2016/17
West Indies in December/January 2017/18
Sri Lanka in December 2018/19
Pakistan in December/January 2019/20

Not leaving themselves much opportunity.

Probably because they've been told they won't get our Boxing Day Test anytime soon.
