Handscombe has completely gone into his shell since the khawaja wicket. Was 20 from 28 and playing a few shots, now 3 from his next 30 and not looking like playing a shot, will edge one soon.
In fairness, this is a pivotal partnership in the outcome of this Test match. If Handscomb and Head can share a big partnership it could turn the Test around. India are on top at the moment and we need to spend as much time in the middle in the 1st innings as possible.

Be interesting to see if we can up the run rate in the final session like India did yesterday when their bowlers start to tire.

We need to up it a bit

But at this stage we cannot afford to lose another wicket......if we are chasing 150 plus in the last innings its game over

This partnership is match defining

Can't say that this was a shock.

Wouldn't surprise me if TV ratings/attendances continue to decline over the summer like in the 2010/11 Ashes, further denting this side's prestige and reputation.

The average Australian cricket fan might state otherwise, but they're not dedicated like most of us on this forum - they're not that interested in watching losing sides.

I dislike chopping and changing sides, but surely Marsh's position is untenable bar a second innings miracle, given Ashwin's record against him? Apparently Burns has been travelling well; could he open and have Finch move down to the middle order (maybe #5)? Also I would bring back Maxwell, if only because he's a right-hander, but that will never happen.

At least having an order full of right-handers might blunt Ashwin's effectiveness.

I dare say they'd be doing a lot better if they let the ICC deal with Smith and Warner.
I think a 6 month ban would have sufficed if CA wanted to placate a baying media/public. They could still say that they were sending a message about bad behaviour (given that no-one has been banned for 6 months for ball-tampering). Plus by the end of the ban the media and public would have moved on to other things. The reputation/prestige of the side would also have not taken any further hits on the field, which looks quite likely ATM.

A good example of such is how Mark Waugh's past association with bookmakers was exposed during the 1998/99 Ashes series (a worse offence than what Smith/Warner/Bancroft did). He was booed during the Adelaide Test but by the Boxing Day Test the media and public had largely moved on to other things.

When Harbhajan Singh of all people suggests that the bans were too harsh, it does give you pause.

Just hope he doesn’t get tied down and come to a stop like khawaja and not look to score. Keep rotating the strike and ticking the score board over. Head is actually doing this quite well with singles

Look deeper hes awful every where but Australia, I dont care how much character you show here when everything is in your favour, hes a spineless slogger away from home hence passable at best.
I'm a massive critic of Warner and he frustrates the shit out of me at times, but when you're averaging just under 50 over that big of a sample size you're more than passable.

Finch is a garbage version of warner, Warner is a barely passable test batsmen. Can we please put a bullet in the test careers of Finch.
6363 runs.
21 centuries
48.2 average

Barely a passable test batsman ? There are lots of idiotic comments made on Big Footy. You are in the running for the most idiotic ever.

Feeling pretty vindicated right now on Finch.

Swinging new ball, keep it full and his shot

Basically he's elite in Australia and a passable test batsman overseas, all in all he's a quality test batsman.

Warner burnt many of his bridges on the way out and he would be hard to re-integrate, but the one thing he could do is score at home.

Much as I would prefer not to, we may have to let him back in the side.

Yep, Finch could do a job opening in the UAE, but here his technique was always doubtful.

Oh how I hate slow scoring. There is a difference between placing a value on your wicket and simply not scoring or turning the strike over.

You typically end up going out having made next to no runs. 2.0 runs per over is ridiculous.
Bolded is the big issue IMO. Khawaja's ratio of dots to singles in that innings was about 10:1 (for comparison, Pujara yesterday was about 6:1).

If international-class bowlers consistently get to bowl 4-6 deliveries in a row to the same batsman, it's going to be very difficult to maintain concentration and prevent them from executing their bowling plan.
