Australia v India 3rd ODI in Canberra

He wasn't singled out, he was the player who got out at that point in the game, When Smith got out nobody was saying "that bloody Maxwell"
He’s regularly singled out for blame which isn’t warranted, stop being obtuse.

Abbott isn't much better than a tailender despite Waugh and co talking him up as an all rounder.
In the last 3 shield seasons he's averaged 44 with the bat and 22 with the ball. He's not a top 6 bat but he's far far better than a tailender.

All 3 games won by the team batting first, India may have won the series if they batted first in one of the first 2 games.

Makes a big difference bowling under lights in cooler conditions.
first 2 games were not even close. this game was a shaun abbott away from australia winning.

In the last 5 years in ODI cricket the team batting first has only won 47% of the time. Just because it happened 3 times in this series doesn't mean it was an advantage.

we all know that abbott is only in the squad because he is from nsw. the bias that has resulted in him being anywhere near the australian team is so blatantly obvious that to refute it would be absurd.
Is the bias with the 3 selectors from Queensland, Western Australia and Tasmania or with CA generally whose headquarters and vast majority of staff are in Victoria?

Stoked India won but Australia has a great ODI side now. It's soo balanced atm with smith accelerating the pace in the middle overs and Maxwell playing the finisher role very well. Zampa has the spinners spot locked up and the 3 quick have their spot locked in too.

Imo if Marnus could improve his bowling to be an option for bowling 3/4 overs then it'd be a perfect side.

C.Green showed some potential too!

Didn't really catch any of the match so apologies if this is a silly comment, but why did Labuschagne open?

Carey would have seemed the obvious pick for me, given he opens for the Strikers (and maybe the Redbacks? idk) and it would have kept the left-right combo at the top.

Labs wanted to open and he started his career as an opener, they may have even been looking ahead to the test series.

Nightmare for Abbott, 1-84 with the ball and 4 off 9 when needed to play a role with the bat late.

Great to win the series but disappointing we couldn't chase down 300 on a pitch that was pretty good for batting. No one going on and getting that 100 really hurt us.

I still don’t understand why Wade was not opening with Finch, that seemed logical. Agar was a good inclusion on this pitch but Green and Abbott nope. Green will be a good test player, no doubt. He’s not a bash and crash all rounder, and as for Abbott I’m not going to even comment like Henriques.

To me the biggest mistake was not picking a proper opener and leaving Lab in the middle order.

We have seen time and again the domestic white ball quicks aren't up to international level but can hardly run the test quicks into the ground all summer either so somewhat understandable to rest them when the series is already won.

Heneriques and Abbott can p-ss off and never play again. Green looks like he has talent but is very raw and not test ready yet. Needs to play Aust A and some one dayers first

I'd be more than comfortable playing Green in test cricket, seemed very composed. However he needs to be able to bowl more.

Look anyone blaming Maxwell for the loss is outright wrong.

Its obvious that letting India score 90 runs in 7 overs at the death is what lost it for us, as we were well on top.
That comes down to bad bowling, and bad captaincy in giving bad bowling more overs than they should

However lets not suddenly pretend Maxwell has always been maligned unjustly, some past criticism was warranted.

Unfortunately Abbott will be around holding back the team for a while to come. There's already puff pieces coming out about him being the future of Australian cricket.

A 28 year old who gets belted to all parts by park cricketers and crumbles under the pressure of a hit and giggle competition.

If Abbott is the future of Aussie cricket, we are in a bad bad way.

Rubbish 20 20 team on paper, lets face it. No Lynn, Stoinis, Cummings, Warner. And Smith is in the side.
