Yes, one where the actual players who have performed get given a chance before being written off for pereceived weakness.
There is way too much focus on a beautiful technique between CA selectors and fans alike.
Give me a side with Burns in it over a side with Harris/Labalababala anyday. Proven runs and centuries mean more to me than a pretty technique but nothing of substance.
Agreed. This notion that we need perfect technique without a flaw is ridiculous. The reality right now is that we are at a lower point than we have been in a long time. The standard just is not as good. We can not keep nit picking over technique and every flaw that might exist. Let's just acknowledge what we have.
Burns - 15 tests and in 8 innings has scored 50+ including 4 centuries. Bar Khawaja, Smith & Warner (Who are not even playing), who else has those numbers for Australia? Does he start in England? Absolutely, unless something disastrous happens between now and then he is an absolute lock.
Patterson - Obviously not a walk up start but he'd be ahead of plenty others. Has an excellent technique, composure, level of patience, and ability to build an innings in a test match.
The one i am sceptical about is Harris at this point. If Usman can have a strong Shield finish (providing he plays) then i might consider him as an opening prospect in England. Harris might make way. Or perhaps Usman does not start and Renshaw comes in? Hard to know. Can Renshaw or Harris bat at 3? Most likely. My starting line up in England;
Warner
Burns
Khawaja / Harris / Renshaw
Smith
Head
Patterson
Paine
Cummins
Starc
Lyon
Richardson / Pattinson
